My first time standing face to face with the monster that raised Logan, the father of the boy I am in love with

'' Maria Eduardo'' He breaks the silence with not a single trace of smile on his face '' We finally meet''

'' Good evening'' trying to sound as bold as possible. If I said I wasn't terrified then I am a fat liar. I regret it. I should have panicked and ran. Now here I am. In a place where anything bad can happen to me and nothing would be done about it.

'' You are a lot like your father'' My heart skipped at the mention of my father. He knew my father, on a personal level. How come all this is news to me?

'' You knew my father?'' I have to remain composed

'' Yes. A man with a strong will, ambitious and you are just like him'' I frowned

'' I am nothing like my father'' I didn't know when I blabbed

'' Yes'' he gave a slight nod, '' this is him speaking. Bold''

'' Why am I here?'' I asked as I desperately wanted to know.

'' I wanted to know who dares to temper with my property'' his eyes darkened sending me chills all over '' I never expected it to be you, the daughter of Eduardo''

'' I never touched your property sir''

'' Logan... You tempered with Logan'' Wait, he takes Logan as a property, possession? '' he dared to lie to me, not once but twice, because of you and you claim you haven't tempered with my property?'' he said questionably and I have no answer to the question. Property, I see where his kids got the habit of calling people theirs. '' There is nothing I hate the most than someone touching what is mine'' Yeah, it runs in the family blood. Thinking to myself. So what does he want? Me to break up with Logan? I should drop out of the school?

'' What do you want from me, sir?.... To break up with him''

'' That wouldn't be necessary. He would soon find no use of you and take out the trash'' I am the trash, not like I was expecting him to see me as anything more. '' I never knew your father had a family'' he said '' he did well to hide it from the company'' He leaned forward in his chair '' He was an annoying man who got to know too much and became a threat'' he said

''Too much?'' confused as to what he was talking about and he raised an eyebrow at me

'' Don't act foolish, you are his eldest child'' His words were beginning to get strange. So what if I was his eldest child? For the first time, my eyes met his and I quickly looked away. His eyes may be like Logan's but there was nothing beautiful about '' You see, your father was a very important part of this company, but we had to let him go due to some flaws that were risky to the company'' he explained. From the story I heard, my father was framed. And besides, why was he telling me all this?

'' I don't see why you are telling me all this?'' He pauses and stares at me for a long while, like trying to figure out something. Something hidden inside of me and he needed to find it

'' You don't what to know about your father?'' he asked

'' What use is a dead man to me?'' responding with another question '' I have no interest in what my father did or knew. Not like it would do me any good'' We fell into silence for over 20 seconds and He finally nodded, breaking the silence

''OK then... Miss Maria'' he didn't call Eduardo this time '' We are done here''

'' we are?'' Confused

'' Yes. Eric, escort her out'' he instructed and Eric did as told

They dropped me off at the bus stop with me thinking about the whole situation. Why exactly did he want to see me? From what I observed. He wanted to confirm something and I think he did. But what exactly did he confirm? When I got home. Malisa and Mother were already asleep. I thought about the incident almost the whole night and didn't even know when I fell asleep.

'' Maria!!'' Malisa snapped me out of my deep thought the next day as we had breakfast

'' Hmmm'' stupidly looking from my mother to Malisa

'' Where is your mind?'' Malisa had a worried tone

'' Oh.. sorry''

''Sweetheart, are you alright?'' My mother reached for my hair, adjusting it gently '' You have been pale all morning and lost... is something bothering you?'' even if something did bother me, I couldn't tell her because of her health

'' Did You and Logan fright'' Malisa blabbed and I flashed her a death stare. Why does she strongly believe that whatever I am sad, lately, it is because of Logan and when I am feeling bright, it is also because of Logan '' I have to ask, out of being a caring sister''

'' You are only interested in yourself and your loss if something were to happen between Logan and me''

'' there is nothing wrong with being a little selfish, isn't that right mummy?'' Malisa faced mother who was now smiling at us

'' When is Logan coming over'' Mother asked ignoring the question and Malisa frowned

'' I don't know'' I shrugged while trying to hold myself back from blushing at the thought of Logan

'' Invite him over for lunch.... it's been a while'' she said

'' I will see if he has time'' there was silence as we went back to eating

'' I am closing the restaurant'' Mother said. Malisa and I froze. What does she mean she is closing the restaurant? That is our major source of income, is it because of her health? But mother is not the type to close her restaurant because of her health. Instead. We are the ones that should pressure her to close. Malisa and I looked at each other, then back at our mother

'' You are closing?'' I asked

'' Yes, I can't maintain the rents so I would sell everything inside and pay the debtors'' My heart broke into a million pieces. Since Mother left the hospital, she hasn't brought up the debtors, I know she was angry that I kept it from her and I expected her to scold me but she didn't. She just skipped to finding a solution.

'' Mummy I am...'' she cuts me off while she continues eating

'' I want to be angry'' she began '' This is something I am supposed to know as your mother, but you took the burden alone, taking risk and...'' she hesitates. Mother looked up from her food to me and I saw tears in her eyes. Once again I have hurt my mother, what a terrible daughter I am '' Trying to protect me and your sister...'' she began to sob '' You are just a kid, Maria, why do you do this? Why do you choose to go through this alone, making sure all is well with us while you die inside''

'' Mummy'' I place my spoon on the table, losing my appetite to eat '' Please stop''

'' Why Maria... why did you keep this from me... is it because''

'' Mother stop'' I yelled '' Please stop'' I couldn't take it. I didn't want to cry in front of her. She had a lot going on already. I got up and went to my room. Taking a jacket and my bag which had my work uniform. I wanted to leave when I remembered something from Last night.

Your father was an annoying man who got to know too much and became a threat.

It finally hit me what they wanted to know. Taking out the brown envelope from hiding. I left the house, I wanted to stop by and see Lara but I changed direction and went to a cyber cafe. I paid to use the computer. Giving my privacy. Wait a headset on, I put in the flash drive and went through it.

My father knew too much. I finally understood what he meant. My father knew too much about the company, things that he shouldn't know and he became a threat. And once the Max family comes in contact with a threat. They get rid of it. They got rid of My father for knowing what he shouldn't know. I know it as well. I know the family's dark secret and that makes me a threat. I now know too much. Fuck. I shouldn't have watched this or read this document.
