"Don't forget to take off the cap" Bri shouted from the hallway,
I went over to open the door for her to enter our bathroom.

"What does it say?" She asks as she hurriedly stepped inside and closed the door behind her
"It takes 3 minutes" I say placing the test with shaking hands down, moving to wash my hands, which Brianna of course noticed.

"Hey" she said reaching for my hands as she dried them off with a small towel "look if it turns out to be positive just know that we're here for you" Bri said trying to calm my rushing thoughts
"Does Theo know?" She asks carefully and I quickly shook my head 'no'

"He is in Paris right now and I don't want to bother him" I say
"Can you look for me? I can't do it" I ask after my timer went off.

Bri let go of my hands and grabbed the pregnancy test, she looked at it first and then at me,
"Oh my- I'm pregnant!? I-"
"No! No, you're not pregnant!" Brianna said cutting my off and I've never felt so much relief hit me at once

"Thank you Jesus" I mumble to myself as I felt my eyes get teary "Gosh I'm so stupid" I mumble to myself face palming

"But like, don't you guys use protection?" Brianna asks carefully
"Well..."
"You've got to be fucking kidding me Imani!" Brianna cuts me off harshly

"No wait! Well I am on birth control but sometimes I forget to take them yknow" I explain weakly

"Consider yourself lucky you didn't end up pregnant! I mean what are you guys thinking!" Bri continues with her lecture

"I know I know that's stupid of me. I get it. That's why I bought us a stash of condoms. I'm not ready to become a mother yet" I say trying to calm her down

"You don't say"

Nobody besides Brianna knew about the test and I also don't intend on telling anyone - not even Theo, to be honest I don't know how he would react but I do know he would overthink and stress about it for no reason. So I'm definitely not telling him.

Since Theo's departure I was constantly checking my phone to see if he texted or answered me. He didn't tell me exactly when he would come back and wouldn't tell me when I ask him.

"Hey Ezra" I greet him politely catching him just in time since our next period would start soon.

" 'sup" he greets casually, not gonna lie deep down I always had this feeling that Ezra doesn't like me or maybe he's just like that to everyone.

"How are you doing?" I ask trying a little bit of small talk
"Cut the crap Imani, what do you want?" He asks looking at me bored
"Oh uhm okay straight to business" I mumble to myself

"I just wanted to ask you if you at least know when Theo's coming back" I spill and Ezra looks at me dumbfounded

"Aren't you his girlfriend?" he asks with raised eyebrow
"Aren't you his best friend?" I shot back

"Well since you wanna know so bad, yes I know when he's coming back" Ezra said smug
"And when exactly?"

"Well Theo also told me not to tell you soo..." Ezra said shrugging and I groaned
"Whatever, if he wants to keep it a secret fine. I don't care" And with that I made my way to my next class.

"I got a surprise for you" I said as I scrambled through my backpack for my Spanish test.

Miguel was over at my place so he could continue tutoring me in Spanish.
"A surprise? what for?" He asks turning the barstool to look at me

"Ta da! I got a B+ on my last test! All thanks to you" I say handing him the paper
"That's amazing, see I knew you could do this. You just needed a little push" Miguel said taking a look at my test

"I owe you Miguel. You really helped me out here" I say thankful

"It's really not that big of a deal. I would help you anything" he said handing me my test back and our fingers brushing against each other. My breath got caught in my throat and neither of us was moving.

We looked each other in the eyes, it's the first time I noticed his light brown eyes had little specks of green in them. He slowly leaned towards me and I noticed the way his lips parted slightly, my heart was beating fast and my head was pounding as if there were sirens going off in my body.

His gaze went towards my lips and back to my eyes again, he gulped loudly and his cheeks had a pink tint on them. He pushed a strand of my baby hair away when suddenly the front door opened. We quickly broke the eye contact and I made sure to create a large distance between us.

"Honey? We're home!" My mom yelled from the hallway when she and dad entered our kitchen with multiple shopping bags
"Oh! We have a visitor!" My mom said excitedly as my dad just removed his coat "Nice to meet you" he said then towards Miguel

"Uh- uhm nice to meet you too" Miguel said quickly

"Are you staying for dinner?" My mom asks Miguel who then looked at me
"Uh I think Miguel was just leaving, right?" I say handing him his backpack

"Yes! Yes, sure I have to go home now" Miguel said quickly
"Naw that's too bad, It's been so long since we had dinner with any of your friends" My mom said and I just wanted her to keep quiet and make this encounter less awkward

"Maybe another time" Miguel said his ears slightly pink

"I'll bring you out" I said grabbing his arm on the way out so my mom would stop talking to him.

"So..." I start weakly
"Yeah..." Miguel said scratching the back of his neck
"I... I'll see you tomorrow?" He adds after a second of silence
"Yeah yeah! Sure" I said quickly "G-Good night" I add
"Good night" He said with a smile that wasn't reaching his eyes.

I closed the door and leaned my back on it. Relief washed over my body as it felt like as if was able to breathe again.
"stupid. stupid. stupid" I mumble as I hit the back of my head against the door.
