There it was. My High School diploma on the table. At the end of the day it's just a piece of paper. It looked fancy yes but that's about it.

I was already dressed for prom sitting in the living room deciding if I actually want to go,

"Do you want me to take a picture of you?" Zoe asked, I didn't even realise she entered the living room

"Would be sad if you had no memories of this special day" she adds but I just stare ahead.

"I don't even know if I'm still going" I said honestly

"But what about your little girlfriend?" Zoe asks and I give her the side eye

"We broke up" I state simply

"Oh" Zoe said feigning some sort of interest "Are you okay?" She asks and I scoff

"Stop acting like you care, I know you never liked the idea of me and her being together" I spat getting upset

"So no picture then." She said quietly walking back upstairs but almost walked into Will who came rushing in

"I can take a picture! Please please please" he shouted with his camera in hand

"I don't really feel like it Will" I said my voice much softer than before

"Pleaseeee! Just one!"

"Okay" I said sighing.

"But you need to stand up" Will said in an orderly manner so I did

"Now smile!" He said his face hidden behind the camera,

I tried my best to give him a happy face when the flash went off.

"Now of us together, look what my camera can do!" Will said clicking on a few buttons before he placed the camera on some higher ground and ran in my direction.

I started laughing when he jumped at me knowing I would catch him and the flash went off again.

After a few more random and funny pictures I started getting messages from Ezra asking or more likely telling me to quote on quote get my 'funky white ass here'.

I tried to explain to him that I didn't want to disturb him and his date and follow them around like a lost puppy but he said that he didn't care and wanted me there.

Looks like I got no other choice than to go.

I felt like taking my new whip instead of my dad's old truck forgetting how loud it actually is.

I had luck and was able to park close to the entry of our gymnasium and stepped out of my car to see a few students taking pictures with their friends and partners.

The music could be heard from outside and not far from the entrance where some students smoking and probably drinking cheap alcohol and beers.

There were already a bunch of people inside and I definitely felt out of place when suddenly a hand touched my shoulder

"What took you so long man" Ezra said dabbing me up

"Cmon we're sittin over there" he said guiding me towards our assigned table.

Something I totally forgot about. That would mean I have to sit next to Imani for the rest of the evening, if she's even here of course.

"Layla this is Theo, Theo this is Layla" Ezra said breaking me out of my thoughts
