2 weeks later
olivia and i have been going really well. i haven't officially asked her out, but we were taking it slow. we pretty much acted like we were dating. there wasn't a rush. i also... haven't had the courage to kiss her yet, but that'll hit sooner or later. we've almost kissed a lot of times, but we always got interrupted by our friends by accident, or our phone notifications, or by a random person screaming across the beach. we have our reasons.i walk up to gracie, shoes sinking into the sand. she looks up from her phone, smiling, "morning, y/n." "morning, gracie," i hug gracie as she pulls me in for one.
i catch my breath as we slow down to a slow walk after running our usual scenic route for a while. "grab a smoothie with me?" gracie asks. "yeah, 'course," i agree, and we turn into the smoothie store a few stores up.
i get the passionfruit mango one, gracie opting for the watermelon with berries one. we take a seat on one of the outdoor chairs, facing each other. "so... any plans for today?" gracie asks, taking a sip. "i have no idea," i admit with a small chuckle, "you?" "probably hanging out with friends," gracie assumes.
we talk for another half an hour, before walking back to the spot where we meet up most days- the same spot on the beach. gracie places her cup into the bin, before facing me a few steps after. "thanks for running with me, y/n," gracie smiles, "it's nice to run with a friend." "yeah, it's great," i agree, smiling softly.
gracie takes a step forward, and i keep my eyes on her. she leans closer, nose past mine, and i freeze.
i stare at gracie as she closes her eyes, her lips brushing against mine. i finally snap back into reality, quickly pulling away before gracie deepens it.
"oh my god," i whisper in shock, wiping my lips. gracie's smile fades, and she looks at me with a hurt expression.
i look at gracie, letting my hand drop, "i'm so sorry." "no, i- i shouldn't have tried to kiss you," she shakes her head dismissively, "um... yeah, i'm sorry. i should've read your body... energy." "no, it's alright. it's just that it's getting serious with olivia right now," i say, "it's been for a few weeks. i should've let you know, i'm sorry." her eyes widen, "oh my god, are you serious?"
i walk into the bedroom, still seeing olivia sleeping. getting an outfit together, i quickly shower, my mind full of gracie. god, i had to tell olivia.
i lay in bed beside olivia, staring at her sleeping peacefully. i look away, picking up my phone and reading gracie's few messages she sent while i was in the shower.
'hey y/n im so sorry again'
'i really didnt want to make it seem that i was trying to get into the way of you and olivia'
'im so sorry if it affects you and olivia or you and i'
i decide to respond to it later, placing my phone down as i sigh. i glance at olivia again, before closing my eyes.
olivia's pov
i open my eyes, seeing y/n sleeping beside me. though last night, i was laying on her chest with her arms around me. i look at her hair, seeing it slightly wet. must've gone running with gracie.i place my hand on her jaw, moving closer. i pucker my lips, kissing the tip of her nose. "liv," y/n whispers. "i'm up," i tell her. "i have... to tell you something," she whispers, opening her eyes. "what's up?" i ask. "gracie kissed me," she says quietly.
my heart drops. "what?" i whisper. "she kissed me this morning," y/n sits up, rubbing her eyes tiredly, "when we finished running. and i froze. her lips touched mine... but i pulled away. i didn't kiss her back, i promise. we barely touched, like, it was a brush on the lips." "then what?" i breathe out. "then... i told her that i was talking to you, and she was really apologetic. like, really apologetic."
