we get into the car, and i place the vase in between my legs. y/n walks to the other side, and my phone rings. i pick up the call from mom, placing it on speaker on my thigh as i buckle up. "hey! are you coming home soon? we're leaving in, like, five minutes," she says, y/n getting into the car. "uh..." i think, "it takes me a while to get home." "i can take you straight from here," y/n offers. "are you sure?" i ask her, "i feel bad." "yeah, it's not a problem," y/n smiles, buckling up. "thank you," i grin. "is that y/n?" mom asks. "uh- yeah, yeah. i'm with y/n," i pick up my phone. "oh! does y/n wanna come with us?" mom asks. i look at y/n, smiling. "no, i feel bad," y/n chuckles. "oh gosh, don't worry, y/n! i was about to ask anyways," mom says, "trust me." "are you sure?" y/n asks, starting up the car. "yeah, of course!" mom exclaims. "thank you," y/n chuckles, "we'll see you there soon."

i hang up, and we put in the restaurant name. "are you okay with this?" y/n asks. "with you having dinner with my parents?" i ask. "yeah," y/n nods, almost nervous. i could understand. she was thinking about gracie.

"yeah, it's okay, y/n. i wanna have dinner with you," i smile, placing my hand on her thigh for a second and squeezing it. she laughs as i place my hand in my lap, "alright, olivia. thank you." it's funny our first dinner was with my parents.

we walk into the restaurant, and i smile as i see my parents. i take a step towards them, looking at y/n as she looks around the place. i take my hand in hers, and she looks at me as we start to walk. i let go of her hand, walking the rest of the way with y/n behind me.

"hi, mr and mrs rodrigo," y/n greet my parents as she sits beside me, opposite mom, "thank you so much for inviting me." "hi y/n, nice to meet you," dad smiles as y/n puts her hand out to him. he shakes her hand, and i smile as she does the same with my mom, both of them chuckling.

things were going really well. i felt really proud to be y/n's friend in this moment; y/n was amazing at talking to my parents. i hate to say it, but gracie really missed out.

i catch mom's eye as y/n talks to dad, having a passionate conversation on nfl because of their shared interest. i smile, shaking my head at mom as she gives me a look with a teasing smile. that look.

"so, y/n," mom says briefly after, "dating anyone?" fuck. "mom," i try to warn her, not wanting to remind y/n. "oh," y/n chuckles slightly sadly, "not anymore. my girlf- ex girlfriend, and i broke up two days ago." "oh my god," mom raises her eyebrows, "i'm so sorry, y/n." "no, it's okay," she shakes her head, "it's alright." i lighten the subject, "yeah, y/n's kind of the... heart-throb of the school." y/n, mom and dad laugh, y/n shaking her head. "just look at her," i grin teasingly, dumping her shoulder with mine. "yeah, i could probably guess that," mom smiles, "you're beautiful, y/n!" "thank you, mrs rodrigo. you look really good, too!" suck up. "i wanna meet your parents and see what they look like," dad says. we all laugh. "a lot of people say i look like both of my parents combined, and my brother looks a little more like my mom," y/n says, "but yeah! we should have dinner together, you guys would get along well, and you can be the judge of that." "that sounds great," mom laughs, "how old's your brother?" "only fifteen months," y/n answers. "aw, i miss having a baby around after olivia grew up," mom says. "yeah, it's the best," y/n smiles.

we finish dinner, and i watch as y/n insists on splitting. "y/n, i'm not gonna let you split it," dad laughs. "y/n actually spent more than, like, seventy dollars on me today," i say. "what?" mom asks, looking at me. "no- we made these lego flowers," y/n explains. "y/n bought that and the vase to put it in, and let me keep them," i explain, looking at y/n, "so you don't have to pay!"

y/n and i quickly walk to her car to get the flowers. she opens the passenger door, taking them out. "here," she hands it to me, "i'll walk you back." "thanks," i smile, and we start to walk back. we see mom and dad waiting on the sidewalk, where their car was parked at the curb. "thank you for dinner," she says, hugging mom, then dad.
