y/n patiently waits as she sits on the comfortable, cushioned chair, looking around the administration office in attempt to distract herself from the nervousness settling in.

it was y/n's first day at her new school. being a senior in a school that has kids that have grown up with each other for years, nervousness was an understatement. her parents had moved from new york to los angeles as her dad took up a new job. she didn't like her old school, anyways. she didn't feel like she felt in, though she really did like the football team she was in. being a quarterback and captain, it was a good experience to see her teammates grow. she heard that her new school had a good football team she wanted to join.

as much as she wanted to have a good mindset with this school, she couldn't help but think of the consequences of a bad first day, and things that would make up that day.

she was now waiting for one of the students at her new school to come and show her around, who she should have majority of classes together. the principal thought it would be more comfortable if it were a student instead of him to introduce y/n to what the school has to offer. she agreed, hoping this was a chance to make her first friend. but what if they don't click well? she looks away, at the clock to stop her overthinking.

"she's just over here," y/n hears the principal say, making her snap out of her daze and look up. she sees the principal turn the corner, and she looks at the girl walking beside him. blonde hair, dark blue eyes. a polite, warm smile on her face as she looks at y/n. a small wave of relief washes over y/n as she started to have a good feeling about this.

y/n stands up, facing the principal and the girl. y/n was slightly taller than her, maybe by an inch or two. "hi," the girl says, keeping a smile on her face as she introduces herself, "i'm jess. it's really nice to meet you, y/n." y/n expected jess to know her name, "hi, jess. it's really nice to meet you, too."

the principal talks to the two girls for a few minutes before he insists they start their tour. they walk out of the office, beside each other. "so... i heard you're from new york," she strikes up a conversation, both of them walking at a moderate speed. it was a good way to get to know each other without it being awkward. "yeah," y/n answers, deciding to elaborate, "um, my family and i moved because my dad got a new job here."

"did you like your old school? i couldn't imagine moving," jess tells me her opinion as i scan the empty hallway ahead. "well... it was fine. could've been a lot better," y/n keeps it brief. "hopefully you'll have a good time here!" jess exclaims in a happy, enthusiastic manner as she glances at y/n with a smile. y/n looks at her, giving a hopeful one back.

y/n looks in the doors as she walks past them. jess says, "calculus, stats, algebra, geometry... all of that." y/n looks away from the doors, and they turn left.

"so... we're actually supposed to be having music now," jess says after we spend a while on the tour, "which is really good, because i can be in your first class so you're not so uncomfortable and anxious." y/n smiles at the selfless words jess spoke. "yeah, that's really relieving," y/n admits with a breath out, "thank you." "no problem," jess grins at her, "i can tell that you're gonna fit in here."

y/n looks at jess as the blonde keeps her eyes straight, before looking away. "i'd hope so," y/n chuckles tensely. "hey, it's been kind of going around that there was gonna be a new person coming to the school. a senior overheard principal walters and someone else talking about organizing a tour guide for you. it's spread around," jess tells me, "i don't want you to feel overwhelmed. we haven't had a new person in a while." "well... i was hoping to keep low," y/n admits her intentions now that it was tainted. "yeah, change of plans," jess chuckles, "you can hang out with my friends and i!" y/n smiles, letting her shoulders drop slightly. i guess the worry of finding friends was out of the way.
