i feel someone tap my shoulder as i walk to the cafeteria. i look beside me, seeing gracie. probably the last person i'd expect.

"oh, hey," i say. "hey," gracie says, "can we talk?" "yeah," i nod.

we start to walk around outside. "have you heard what they're saying about olivia?" she asks. "yeah," i breathe out. god, it must spread like wildfire. "i just want you to know that i'm really sorry," gracie says, "about everything. about her getting the blame, about everything that happened between us." "it's okay," i say, "everything that happened between us." "are you sure? we haven't talked in a while. i was so scared to talk to you," gracie says. "yeah, we're good," i say, "are you okay?" "i'm alright," gracie says, "you?" "alright, too," i answer. "are you and olivia seeing each other?" she asks, "i'm not, like, trying to say anything bad about you guys or shade you for moving on." "no, we aren't," i say, "i mean, not yet. i don't know, a lot's happening at once." gracie says, "i understand." "how many people have you heard talk about liv? she's really stressed out. "only, like, one or two," she says, "everyone's making rumors and saying that she broke us up so she could get with you." "jesus," i sigh, "she told me that she wants to get it get overshadowed by another drama that's hopefully soon to come, and she doesn't want me to say anything big that'll cause her to get more attention." "that's understandable," gracie says.

"so... that's it between us?" she asks, and we both stop, facing each other. "i think so," i say, "it... i had a really good time with you." "me too," she says, "i'm sorry we weren't on the same page." "it's okay," i say, "everything happens for a reason." she smiles faintly, "yeah. olivia will treat you right. i can only chuckle as she hugs me tight. "i'm glad you don't hate me," gracie says, pulling away. "it's alright," i smile, "i can tolerate you for now." gracie laughs, pushing my left shoulder.

i walk into the cafeteria with gracie as both our friend groups were in there. i find olivia's table, seeing her looking at me. maybe this wasn't a good look, with my ex beside me. but gracie and i were all cool now.

olivia looks away, and i sigh, looking away too.

i walk out of school, taking out my phone. i call olivia, and she picks up after a few rings. "yeah?" she asks. it gets me a little off guard. "hey," i say, "do you wanna come over?" "oh, i'm hanging out with my friends, sorry," olivia says. "all good," i answer. "maybe next time." "tomorrow?" i ask, unlocking my car door. "yeah, we'll see," olivia says. "alright. see you," i say. "see you," she responds, hanging up.

i take the phone from my ear, placing it on the phone holder as i start up the car. she seemed so sad.

olivia's pov
i stay quiet as conan, iris and madison talk as we have dinner. "are you okay, liv?" madison asks beside me. "yeah," i nod, even though they all know i wasn't.

i've heard everything people are saying about me. it was stupid, they didn't even know me, or y/n, or y/n and i together. we weren't even anything. they were saying all these things, but they weren't even saying it to my face.

i pick up my phone as it buzzes, reading the messages from y/n.

'hey liv i just wanna say that im really sorry for today i know that its neither of our faults but im really sorry about the things some people are saying about you'

'if you wanna talk to me about it i promise im here'

'and im sorry that we cant hang out at school its a shame but i know its for the better'

'i hope this all blows over soon and we can hang out again'

i smile faintly, turning my phone off. right now, y/n was the only one who could make me feel better.
