"ready to go?" olivia asks y/n. y/n looks up, "yeah, ready. did your parents already leave?" "yeah," olivia says.

y/n looks ahead as olivia drives to school. "you can be honest with me, y/n," olivia says, "do you hang out with anyone at school?"

y/n says, "i don't bother to make friends." "why?" olivia asks. "i already told you why," y/n says. "but don't you want your last year of high school to be filled with friends?" olivia asks. "not really," y/n says, "just wanna get school over and done with." "you can hang out with my friends and i," olivia suggests. "no, it's alright," y/n turns down, "thanks, though."

"...so now she's staying at my house," olivia says after explaining everything to her friends at lunch. "wow," conan whispers, "i told you something was up when she was repeating the same, like, three outfits." "do you like her?" iris asks. "yeah, i do," olivia says, "she's nice, but so... closed off. hurt. i wanna know why she ended up homeless, you know?" "maybe she did something really bad and her parents kicked her out," madison says. "yeah! maybe she's, like, addicted to drugs and alcohol," conan says, "or maybe she's getting people addicted." "alright, let's stop with the assumptions," olivia stops them, "and you guys have to promise me you won't tell anyone." she makes everyone pinky promise her. she looks up, seeing y/n walk into the cafeteria. she scans the cafeteria, and her eyes fall on olivia. olivia gives her a smile, and y/n looks away, lining up behind the few people for cafeteria lunch. "i'm gonna talk to her," olivia says, getting out of her seat.

"hey," olivia says to y/n. "hey," y/n answers. "i could've made you lunch. you didn't have to put up with the shitty cafeteria food," olivia says. "it's better than nothing," y/n says. that saying was used lightly, but olivia and y/n knew how deep it was with y/n's history. "where do you eat it?" olivia asks. "what do you mean?" y/n asks. "you leave after you get your food. where do you go?" olivia explains. "to a secret place," y/n says. "not... the bathrooms, right?" olivia asks, furrowing her eyebrows at the thought. "no," y/n shakes her head, "a lot better than that." "tell me," olivia smiles. "it's a secret," y/n says. "you're annoying," olivia says. "yeah, i'm a lot of things," y/n says. "olivia!" someone calls out. y/n keeps her eyes on olivia as olivia looks at one of her other friends. they beckon her over with a smile. "i have to go," olivia says, "see you fifth."

"you're friends with the new girl?" jesse asks her. "sort of... yeah," olivia answers, "why?" "she's kinda hot," jackson says. olivia doesn't say anything about that. "who does she hang out with?" amelia asks. "no idea," olivia says.

olivia and y/n walk out of school. "can you drive?" olivia asks her. she nods, "haven't in a long time, though." "do you wanna drive home?" olivia asks, smiling, "i'm curious to see how you drive." "no," y/n says, "i'm probably terrible now. haven't driven in over a year." "well, i'll see you drive one day," olivia says, unlocking her car.

"you know what i learnt today?" y/n asks as they start to drive home. olivia glances at her. y/n was never one to start up conversations. "what'd you learn?" olivia asks. "that you're one of those popular people," y/n says. olivia chuckles, shaking her head, "oh god. who told you that?" "no one. just overheard people's conversations," y/n says. "and what do you think about that?" olivia asks. "i think... that i don't care," y/n says. "thought so," olivia says, "by the way, my friends are coming at five." "do they know about me?" y/n asks. "yeah, i explained it to them," olivia says, "i made them all pinky promise." "thanks," y/n says. "hey, i won't judge, but are you, like, a drug addict? or seller?"

y/n shoots her a look, "the fuck? no, olivia." "okay, good. they just assumed you were," olivia says. she probably shouldn't have said that. "do i look like i'm associated with drugs to you?" y/n asks. "no," olivia says, "it's just that... i don't know your story." "well... a drug addict would probably be better," y/n mumbles, staring out the window. olivia glances at her, deciding not to say anything and let her thoughts keep her occupied.
