a/n - please vote!! one of my fav stories

i hold the cardboard box full of my belongings as i walk into the house. of course i was dreading to move. but now that i'm in the house, i'm really excited.

iris, my best friend when i was eleven, moved away. turns out life's like a little circle, as i moved into her area. she was a five minute drive from where i am. my parents were best friends with hers, which was why her family influenced the move a little bit, pushing my mom to move as dad got a job offer here.

iris and i spent the weekend hanging out at her house as mine had moving boxes everywhere. i haven't talked to her in almost seven years. iris looks the same, yet different. that's what i say about most people, though. she fills me in on everything, and it seemed like the town was really good. at least i didn't have to worry about making friends on monday, since iris said that she already talked to her friends and they're excited to meet me.

iris gets on the topic of this one girl she thought i should know about after talking briefly about other people in her grade that was soon to be mine too. apparently, the girl was engraved into the school's lore.

"she was the most popular girl in the school. well, she still is, but she's changed a lot these past few weeks. her mom passed away from a car crash around two weeks ago, exactly a week before y/n's eighteenth birthday. she got into an uber and it turns out the guy was under the influence. crashed into a truck. the uber got a concussion, but y/n's mom passed away. y/n didn't come to school for a few weeks, which is lucky, because she was the talk of the school," iris tells me.

"she completely closed herself off. the first day she came back to school, her locker was filled with flowers and cards, which i think made her feel even worse." i couldn't imagine that. a week before her daughter's eighteenth birthday. still so young.

"she's slowly getting back to school, but not back to herself. she had quit the school football team, which is understandable, since she was the quarterback. the whole team relied on her, so i've got a feeling they're not gonna win most of their games because of her, unfortunately. i'm in a few of her classes," iris tells me, "the teachers take it easy on y/n, but i know that y/n doesn't like being treated with sympathy. a lot of people miss the old y/n. i know she's still in there somewhere, but she's changed." "tell me how she used to be," i say to iris.

iris purses her lips, squinting her eyes as she thinks. "where do i even start?" iris asks, chuckling softly, "i think if i asked everyone who knows her to describe her in three words, at least one of them would be along the lines of 'kind'. she was always kind to everyone, which was a relief, because of the other popular girls can be total bitches. but y/n was kind to everyone. real humble, too. she always had a smile on her face, got along with everyone. in a way, she was friends with everyone. she talked a lot, but the teachers loved her, so they wouldn't make it too much of a deal. her and mr duke were kind of the dynamic duo. she's had ap physics class with him for all of her high school years, and they always joke around with each other in that classroom. they barely talk anymore after what happened with y/n, at least from what i've heard. anyways, i'm not sure if you've seen her, but she's drop-dead gorgeous. that's kinda why she's popular too, but then again, humble. she always wears her headphones on 24/7 now, but you'll know who she is when you see her. trust me. she's also incredibly smart, probably smartest in the grade. she takes a lot of hard subjects, and gets at least 90 percent in all of them." "is there anything bad about her?" i chuckle. "there's literally not," iris laughs.

i look at my next class. looks like i have physics with mr duke. maybe y/n will be in my class.

i walk into the class, looking around. the tables were in rows with people scattered in each, making up three across the classroom. "you must be olivia," mr duke says, making me look at him. i smile at him. short-ish brown hair that was styled with a bit of gel, white collared shirt that had two pens in the top pocket, tidied off with black suit pants and black shoes. "hi," i smile, "yeah, i am." "i'm mr duke," he smiles, "welcome to ap physics." "happy to be here," i answer. "take a seat," he says, "it's good to have you here."
