a/n - please votee! one of my favs

y/n glances at her dad, who had changed a lot last week. y/n's life had taken a turn after her dad had been diagnosed with stage two lung cancer a few weeks ago. the hospital bills were gonna be high due to the operations, hospital stays and treatment, but thankfully y/n was getting paid by her football league to represent them, so half of her pay went towards the hospital bills. she suggested getting a job to her parents, but they told y/n that she should prioritize her education and football.

her dad was watching the tv that was hung on the hospital ceiling, before he looks at y/n. he looked so tired. "do you start school soon, mija?" dad asks, keeping his. eyes on y/n. "yeah. i'll leave soon," y/n nods with a sight joke, "why? want me gone already?" dad lets out a tired chuckle, "never."

y/n presses a kiss to her dad's forehead, "i'll be back after school, okay?" "no, it's okay, y/n. i'll be well asleep," he says, "go study. play football." "are you sure?" y/n asks, "i can study here, if you'd like." y/n had done it a few times last week. her mom was working, y/n was in the chair beside the hospital bed, studying as her dad was resting. she didn't mind not having a conversation. she just wanted to be there for him.

y/n walks out of the hospital, taking a heavy sigh. each visit wasn't gonna get easier. she takes out her car keys from her pocket, unlocking the car. she gets in, starting it up and driving to school.

y/n looks in the car mirror on the sun visor, looking at her lips as she puts lipgloss on. she shuts the sun visor back up, putting the lip gloss in her bag. she gets out of the car, locking it as she glances at her school.

y/n takes a deep breath, putting her headphones on and turning them up louder as she walks up the school stairs. one of the songs featured on the playlist she made last night replaces the voices in the hallways she started to walk through.

y/n family wasn't super rich, nor super poor, though y/n knew that the hospital bills were gonna bring the financial aspect of their family a little down for a bit. y/n was just really glad that she was getting paid for doing the one thing she loved; playing football.

y/n was incredibly good at football, she was humbly the best in the city. her football team was really good, as well as the one in school. most of the credit was for their star quarterback/captain.

y/n was looking really good in terms of a football scholarship for college that was coming up soon. she really needed this, now more than ever, as she knew college was incredibly expensive and she felt really guilty asking her parents to help pay for it.

her grades were great, too. she did a lot of ap classes, had a great gpa, and was one of the main runners for valedictorian. y/n was really prioritized on football and her education. she didn't date, she didn't party hard, she didn't half-ass her exams, she was pretty quiet, kept to herself. she was a good student, daughter and a good person in general.

this week was gonna be a tough one for y/n. it had just started, but she was preparing herself for thursday when her dad was going in for surgery. to her shitty luck, she had a school football game that day. but she promised her mom and dad that she would go there straight after her game.

y/n hasn't been the happiest lately. her dad practically lived in the hospital all of last week, having to go on chemotherapy. his hair was falling out rapidly, it was really hard for y/n to hide the sadness she felt whenever she saw him because she didn't want him to get upset, too. she tried to seem happier than she was. she felt like the world was on her shoulders right now. but y/n was good at hiding her feelings.

y/n walks into her ap english class. this was her least favorite class, and it's because of the teacher, miss har. har was just so insufferable. to make it better, she had english again as the last class of the day.
