Grandmother Oliver Joey hopped on the V-Bird and headed up the mountain, while Lily, the third member of their little crew, started making her way down the road towards the town. As she strolled along, Lily couldn't help but notice some strange, makeshift escalators that had popped up from the stone path. Curiosity got the better of her, so she hopped on and let the rails whisk her away.
The trip was as quick as a kangaroo, but Lily had to deal with a few annoyances - namely, the wind and some pesky bugs. One bright orange hornet even gave her a little tap on the head before taking off to build its mud nest. But Lily barely felt a thing, the little ripper just bounced right off and kept flying.
When Lily reached the town, she saw the V-Bird disappear into the mountain, almost like it was an entrance. Turning back, she watched the old escalator retract its claws and start working again. The place was packed with more people than Lily had ever seen in her life - turns out they were all here for the big car and mining expo at the local stadium.
Lily's great-great-great-grandad must've been a real legend, building that place every year from the 20th to the 24th of October. Bloke was a true blue Aussie with some serious prepping skills, that's for sure. Lily wondered if any of the folks she'd just walked past might end up in the bunker with her one day.
Speaking of the bunker, Lily soon found herself right in front of the stadium. Following the old map in her head, she quickly located the entrance to the underground. "I found it!" she whispered to herself, excited that she was on the right track.
Just as Lily was about to head inside, she heard a couple of voices behind her. "Hey miss, do you need some help?" said a woman named Ava, who introduced herself and her mate Ethan. "We've come in from Western Australia to be here."
Lily smiled, glad to have some new friends to explore the bunker with. "Yes, can you come with me? There's something important here under this stadium. My name is Lily Jones."
As soon as Ava heard the name, her eyes went wide. "I'm a big fan of your great-grandfather's work. He and a series of engineers built this town, hey?" Lily nodded and said, "Yes, if we get inside now, we'll have a chance to chat more out of the streets."
The three of them slipped through the door and into the dark, underground tunnel. Lily had a glowing insignia on her left sleeve, just like the one described in the conspiracy theories. The passersby didn't seem to notice or care, they just let the strange lady named Lily Jones and her new mates head on through.
Ethan gave Ava a look, and she lifted her eyes. They were starting to get somewhere after being in this mining town for two days and getting nowhere. It felt nice to meet someone who knew things.
After the door shut, the darkness was absolute. No light, and no air was getting into the underground. But as Lily approached the switch, the entire place lit up just from her presence. "My grandfather's grandfather built this. I didn't even know growing up in the sticks and being homeless three years ago. This is entirely new. I'm just trying to help anyone I can."
Lily saw the switch she was meant to activate, but it was covered in a protective acrylic casing. Lifting the switch, the dark tunnel lit up, but the power was just simple, like lighting up an old mine.
Instead, the walls were held up by the H.C.S.T.S (High Carbon Stainless Tempered Steel) beams, covered in a special mortar and cement meant to last for thousands of years underground. "Follow me," Lily whispered as she switched on her RC ring and activated a ULED light that was as bright as the sun.
Ava and Ethan followed close behind, their eyes wide with wonder. "This place is bloody incredible," Ethan muttered. "How'd your great-grandad manage to build something like this?"
Lily shrugged. "Beats me, mate. The old bloke must've been a real ripper with his prepping skills. Reckon he thought of everything when he built this bunker."
As they ventured deeper into the underground, Lily couldn't help but wonder what other surprises might be in store. She knew her great-grandfather had been a bit of a conspiracy theorist, always going on about the end of the world and the need to be prepared. But Lily had never imagined the lengths he'd gone to in order to ensure the safety of his family and community.
The further they walked, the more Lily realized just how massive and intricate this underground complex was. There were tunnels branching off in all directions, each one seemingly leading to a different section of the bunker. Ava and Ethan were just as amazed as Lily, their heads swiveling back and forth as they tried to take it all in.
"Crikey, this place is like a bloody maze!" Ethan exclaimed. "How are we supposed to find our way around?"
Lily smiled, feeling a newfound sense of purpose. "Don't worry, mates. I reckon I've got a pretty good idea of where we need to go. My great-grandad left us a map, and I'm gonna make sure we follow it to the letter."
With that, Lily led the way, her ULED light cutting through the darkness as they ventured deeper into the heart of the underground bunker. Who knew what other surprises and secrets might be waiting for them down here?
