"That was the most awesome thing I’ve EVER seen!" Taehyung exclaimed, slinging his arm over Miyeon’s shoulder, his voice filled with excitement.
They had just left the gym after Miyeon's basketball trials, and the atmosphere was electric. Miyeon knew she had given her best, but the team selection hadn’t been announced yet. Still, her friends were confident.
“Stop exaggerating,” Miyeon laughed, elbowing Taehyung lightly in the chest. “You’re just saying that because we’re friends.”
“Not true. You really were amazing,” Jeonghan chimed in from behind them, walking alongside Joshua. His tone was casual, but the sincerity in his voice was unmistakable.
Miyeon blinked, surprised. Jeonghan wasn’t usually the type to offer praise so freely, and the unexpected compliment caught her off guard. She felt a sudden warmth rise to her cheeks, and she coughed awkwardly, hoping no one noticed the faint blush creeping up her neck.
As she stole a glance at Jeonghan, she noticed his usual cool, nonchalant demeanor, his hands stuffed casually in his pockets, hair falling into his eyes with every step. The messy strands made her want to reach out and ruffle them, but she quickly dismissed the thought.
Stop the nonsense, she scolded herself.
Their gazes met, and for a moment, it felt like they were the only two people on the street. Neither of them broke the eye contact, even though Miyeon’s heart pounded a little faster. But before the moment could stretch any longer, she spoke up.
“Well, thanks. But it’s nothing new for me,” she said, trying to sound nonchalant, hoping to break the spell.
Joshua and Taehyung exchanged glances behind them, barely suppressing their knowing smirks. They had both seen the brief exchange, and it was all they could do to not burst into laughter.
“So,” Jeonghan continued, a curious glint in his eye, “does that mean you have even more tricks up your sleeve?”
Miyeon looked up at him, meeting his amused gaze. “Maybe,” she replied with a playful smile, her confidence returning.
Jeonghan raised an eyebrow, intrigued. He had always prided himself on being one of the best on the court, but watching Miyeon play earlier had been an eye-opener. He’d never admit it out loud, but there was something about the way she handled herself that impressed him. Still, his pride wouldn't let him dwell on it for too long.
As they continued walking, Taehyung removed his arm from Miyeon’s shoulder, subtly letting Jeonghan take his place beside her. Falling behind to walk with Joshua, Taehyung glanced at him with a mischievous grin.
“You thinking what I’m thinking?” Taehyung muttered.
Joshua nodded, smirking. “I’m definitely thinking what you’re thinking. He’s not going to admit it, though.”
“Who do you think will say ‘I love you’ first?” Taehyung teased, his voice barely above a whisper.
Joshua rolled his eyes. “Taehyung, that’s way too far-fetched. They barely know each other like that.”
“Doesn’t mean it’s not gonna happen,” Taehyung replied with a playful wink.
“Stop it.”
