Miyeon stood at the entrance of the gym, her heart pounding with a mix of nerves and excitement. This was her chance to prove herself, to show her skills and determination in hopes of securing a spot on the girls' basketball team.
As she stepped inside, the familiar scent of sweat and rubber greeted her, mingling with the sound of bouncing basketballs and shouts of her teammates. Unbeknownst to Miyeon, three familiar faces watched from the sidelines, the one's who she was yet to notice.
Taehyung had arrived early, his anticipation palpable as he waited to catch a glimpse of her in action and somehow he had also forced two of his good friends to join him.
It took a lot of convincing from him to make them come after their classes got over in name of support for Miyeon with a bit of blackmail here and there.
"I swear to god if you let a word about me going to the club to my mom I'll kill you, Taehyung.", Jeonghan muttered under his breath throwing daggers his way.
He would never let him know that he was as interested as him to watch the selection. Simply because he had nothing better to do.
"Stop being such an asshole. I won't tell your mother about your little trip to the club.", Taehyung winked at him making him grumble in annoyance.
"You two are such kids.", Joshua chuckled shaking his head.
"And will you be our daddy?", Taehyung said batting his eyelashes at him making him scoot away in disbelief and disgust as Jeonghan laughed at his antics.
There banter was cut off by a voice which they recognized as the captain of the girls team and looked towards the little huddle they had formed. They realised that they had failed to notice Miyeon enter and their gaze landed on her standing between Sohee and some other girl. They were having a discussion which none of them could hear.
"Okay Girls!", Hana began as the group huddled closer, "Only twelve of you will make it to the team today. Don't be disappointed if it isn't you just work on your skills more in future. Now you're going to be divided into two teams and a match will be played between the two. I and the coach will shortlist the players from there itself."
They all nodded at her instructions and were soon divided into two teams. Miyeon was given the responsibility to lead a team while her opposition was Sohee's team.
Miyeon stood with her teammates on one side of the court, their faces set in determined expressions as they went through their pre-game warm-up routine. Across from them, Sohee's team mirrored their movements, their eyes locked on their opponents with steely determination.
"GOOD LUCK, MIYEON!", she turned to look at Taehyung who shouted and gave him a thankful smile for coming to support her.
As she looked at the person sat next to him her breath hitched. Jeonghan was staring at her with a calculating gaze but as he realized she was looking, he gave her a slight wave mirrored to Joshua's which she acknowledged with a nod.
Joshua and Taehyung did not fail to notice the slight blush in his cheeks and looked ta eachother with a knowing smirk.
Soon the referee blew the whistle to signal the start of the match, the two teams surged forward, the sound of squeaking sneakers echoing through the gymnasium. The ball was tossed into the air, and with a flurry of movement, the game began in earnest.
From the outset, it was clear that this would be a fiercely contested match. Both teams were evenly matched, their players skilled and agile, each vying for control of the ball with relentless intensity. Miyeon sprinted down the court, her heart pounding in her chest as she dribbled past defenders, her eyes locked on the hoop.
With a burst of speed, Miyeon launched herself into the air, the ball leaving her fingertips in a perfect arc. Time seemed to slow as the ball sailed through the air, everyone held their breath in anticipation. And then, with a satisfying swish, the ball sailed through the net, eliciting a roar of approval from the spectators.
"Damn!", Joshua muttered in awe.
"That was such a clean move.", Jeonghan muttered.
But Sohee's team was quick to respond, their players moving with precision and determination as they launched their own offensive. Sohee herself proved to be a formidable opponent, her skill and agility on full display as she weaved through defenders with ease, her eyes locked on the basket.
Back and forth the game raged, each team trading baskets with relentless intensity. It was a battle of wills, a test of skill and determination that left no room for hesitation.
As the final minutes of the game ticked away, the score remained neck and neck, neither team willing to concede defeat. Miyeon's team fought tooth and nail, their determination unwavering as they pushed themselves to the limit in pursuit of victory. But Sohee's team was equally relentless, their resolve unyielding as they fought to maintain their lead.
With seconds remaining on the clock, Miyeon found herself in possession of the ball, the weight of the game resting squarely on her shoulders. With a surge of adrenaline, she dribbled towards the basket, her mind focused and her body moving on instinct alone.
As the buzzer sounded, Miyeon launched herself into the air, the ball leaving her fingertips in a desperate last-second shot and she fell to the ground with a loud thud.
Time seemed to stand still as the ball sailed through the air, its trajectory true. And then, with a deafening silence, the ball swished through the net, the final buzzer sounding in triumph.
Taheyung erupted into chaos as Miyeon's team celebrated their hard-fought victory, his along with some other spectators cheers drowning out the sound of the buzzer.
They had done it.
She had done it.
They had emerged victorious in the face of adversity, their determination and teamwork proving to be the ultimate difference.
As they gathered in a huddle, their faces flushed with exertion and excitement, Miyeon couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and accomplishment.
