Lightning slashed across the darkened afternoon sky, illuminating it briefly in stark, bright lines that seemed to challenge the darkness gloom of the hour. Despite it being only mid-afternoon, the rainclouds cast everything into an eerie twilight.

Miyeon walked beside Daehan, her hand wrapped comfortably in his as they both hurried from the school building. The downpour had caught them off guard—they had neither an umbrella nor a car.

Daehan sighed, dropping down onto a nearby bench and pulling her gently along to sit beside him. He took her bag and placed it beside his feet, shielding it from the wet ground, "I knew I should’ve brought my car today," he muttered, glancing up at the drizzling sky in frustration with a pout.

Miyeon chuckled, nudging him playfully. "Then why didn’t you?" she asked, smiling as she tucked a damp strand of hair behind her ear, her teeth chattering from the cold.

"My sister," he replied with a half-smile, pulling her closer for warmth.

Daehan noticed the way Miyeon’s face brightened at the mention, reminding him of the admiration she held for his sister. He chuckled, raising an eyebrow  "I get it— I get it! You think she’s amazing and all. But don’t forget, I’m the one dating you here. Please don’t run off with my sister."

Miyeon laughed, giving him a sheepish look, "Jealous?"

"Very.", He replied seriously, yet his grin softened the word as he shook his head in amusement.

Miyeon’s admiration for his sister, whom he fondly called Mijin, was unmistakable. Even though her real name was Yewon, to him, she’d always be Mijin—a name that suited her unique personality.

Miyeon admired Yewon’s strength, her unwavering confidence, and wished she could embody some of those qualities herself. But she also sensed an unspoken distance between them, and couldn’t help but wonder if Yewon disapproved of her, maybe because she was dating her brother. Miyeon had always wanted to be friends, but Yewon, living back in Korea and only occasionally visiting, felt somewhat out of reach.

Daehan, noticing the faint crease in her brow, wrapped an arm around her shoulder, gently pulling her closer. "She doesn’t hate you," he murmured, pressing a kiss to her temple. "That’s just how she is. She’s careful about new people, especially when they're close to someone she cares about."

Miyeon rested her head against his shoulder, her voice low. "But she doesn’t like me either."

Daehan squeezed her shoulder reassuringly. "That doesn’t mean she dislikes you. If you two had more time together, she’d see how amazing you are. She'd be protective, yes, but I think you’d win her over." He gave a small laugh, adding, "Maybe she’d like you so much that she’d even forget about her own brother."
