"So," Mingyu started, his voice breaking the comfortable silence that had settled over them. He glanced around at each familiar face gathered in the center of the gymnasium, his eyes lingering with questions.

"What’s the plan now?", he asked, popping the last bite of cake into his mouth and licking a smudge of frosting off his thumb.

Outside, the rain had finally ceased, leaving behind that unmistakable petrichor. A cool breeze slipped through the cracked windows of the gym, brushing against their skin like a gentle reminder of the night’s shift in tone. The sound of water dripping steadily from the eaves echoed faintly, blending with the distant hum of the city just beginning to stir again.

They sat together in a loose circle on the wooden floor, half-eaten cake slices and crumpled napkins scattered around them like the aftermath of a fleeting, perfect moment. The laughter had quieted, but the warmth lingered—though now it was laced with a strange, heavy stillness none of them wanted to acknowledge.

Miyeon sat quietly between Jeonghan and Sohee—who had rushed over as soon as Seungkwan called, breathless and relieved upon seeing her. Miyeon's fingers were intertwined with Jeonghan’s, his grip unwavering.

He hadn’t let go of her hand since she walked back to them. To him. His thumb traced gentle circles on her skin, a silent gesture that spoke of things he couldn’t yet put into words—of missed time, of quiet pain, of a connection still pulsing between them.

Sohee leaned into Miyeon's other side, her head resting lightly on her shoulder, as if grounding herself in the reality that Miyeon was really here.

The silence stretched a little longer, filled with unspoken thoughts, until someone exhaled deeply—perhaps it was Seungcheol, or maybe Joshua.

Miyeon had changed into a pair of old sweatpants and a faded t-shirt she found in her locker. They still held a faint scent of the past, worn and comforting in their own way.
