———🌙 ———"Aren't we all sinners?"
Money. Power. Greed. These are the pillars on which society seems to have built its foundation. The world has become a place where material wealth overshadows the importance of emotions and relationships.
It's a cruel reality, one where the pursuit of wealth trumps all else.
How did it come to this? Perhaps, no one knows.
But one thing is certain: survival in this world often demands sacrifices that can turn even the kindest hearts vicious.
Kim Miyeon was no stranger to this world of wealth and power. As the daughter of one of South Korea's most influential businessmen, she grew up surrounded by luxury. Her family was admired and respected, often held up as the ideal of what a successful family should be.
But behind closed doors, things were far from perfect. The love that once bound them was now strained, overshadowed by the pressures of maintaining their status.
Miyeon's childhood was a series of transitions, moving from country to country due to her parents' work. The constant change made it difficult for her to form lasting friendships.
The one exception was Park Nari, a girl she met when her family returned to Korea during her middle school years. Nari, like Miyeon, came from a wealthy background, and the two quickly became inseparable.
Despite their privileged lives, both girls found a void within themselves that their family’s love couldn't fill. They became each other's solace and happy place, helping each other through the challenges of their seemingly perfect lives.
But when Miyeon’s parents suddenly announced that they would be moving away again, the two girls were devastated. The thought of losing their one true friend left them both shattered.
They promised to stay in touch, and despite the physical distance, their bond remained strong.
Yet, life in China was far from the happy picture Miyeon painted for Nari. In reality, it was a nightmare. Rumors and malicious gossip turned her from a beloved friend to a social pariah.
She was ostracized, misunderstood, and her once bright world dimmed under the weight of false accusations. The years in China left scars on Miyeon, both emotional and psychological, and she longed for the day she could return to Korea and seek solace in Nari's friendship once more.

"Miyeon, are you okay?"
Miyeon looked up to see her mother standing beside her, concern etched on her face. She forced a smile and nodded, trying to mask the turmoil inside.
"I'm fine, just a bit nervous… you know, going back after so long," she sighed, her voice barely above a whisper. After years in China, her father had finally decided it was time to return to Korea.
"Don't be nervous, sweetheart. You should be excited! You’ll finally get to see Nari again," her mother reassured her. The thought of reuniting with her best friend was the one thing that kept Miyeon going through the tough times.
She could still vividly recall the joy in Nari's voice when she broke the news of her return. Nari had cried tears of happiness, promising that they would make up for all the lost time.
As the plane took off, Miyeon sat beside her mother, gazing out the window at the clouds below. She plugged in her earphones and let the soft music lull her into a state of calm. Leaning her head on her mother’s shoulder, she tried to shake off the lingering anxiety.
In the background, she could hear her father and sister bickering playfully about a game, and a small smile tugged at her lips. It was moments like these that reminded her of what family was supposed to feel like.
But peace never lasted long for Miyeon.

"HOW DARE YOU TAKE AWAY WHAT'S MINE?"
"HELP ME! PLEASE..."
"I'LL SUE YOU ALL AND MAKE YOU ROT IN HELL. SHE IS NOTHING MORE THAN A DAUGHTER OF A BITCH."
"YOU DESERVE WORST DEATH POSSIBLE, KIM MIYEON."
The voices were distant yet terrifyingly vivid, echoing through her mind as she tossed and turned in her sleep. She knew she was dreaming, but the fear was all too real.
Someone was shaking her, trying to pull her out of the nightmare, but the voices kept getting louder, more frantic.
She awoke with a start, her heart racing as she gasped for breath. Her father's concerned face was inches from hers, his hands gently cupping her cheeks as he wiped away the tears that had streaked down her face. Her sister stood next to him, wide-eyed with worry, while her mother offered her a glass of water and some medicine.
"Are you okay now, Miya?" her father asked softly, his voice laced with concern. Miyeon nodded, still too shaken to speak.
"You know you can’t forget to take your medication, right?" he reminded her gently. "You need to be more careful."
Miyeon nodded again, taking the water and pills from her mother with trembling hands. Her father patted her head before returning to his seat, and her sister followed suit. Her mother wrapped an arm around her, pulling her close and stroking her hair in a comforting rhythm.
"You need to take care of yourself, Miya. We’re here for you, but we can’t do everything. You have to look after yourself too," her mother murmured.
Miyeon nodded once more, leaning into her mother’s embrace. She was exhausted, both physically and emotionally, and despite the lingering fear, sleep soon claimed her again.
But even in sleep, the shadows of her past lingered, always just out of reach, but never truly gone.
