The sound of the crowd wasn’t nearly loud enough to cover the jolt of shock Miyeon felt as her nemesis entered the gymnasium, striding confidently toward her team. How could she have been so careless? She had never bothered to look up Pristine High’s notorious captain, and now here she was—Jiyang, in all her glory.

Miyeon cursed herself for the oversight.

You’re supposed to know your opponent’s weaknesses, but if you don’t even know who they are, then you’ve already made the gravest mistake. And judging by the smug look Jiyang was giving her, she knew she’d caught Miyeon off guard.

But Miyeon wasn’t the type to let anyone have the upper hand for long. Schooling her features, she met Jiyang’s stare with equal intensity, determination hardening her resolve. She wouldn’t show weakness, especially not to someone like her.

"Miyeon,” Jiyang said smoothly as she came to a stop in front of her, her team flanking her like an army ready to strike. Her voice dripped with disdain, but it was the barely concealed fury beneath her composed mask that caught Miyeon’s attention.

"I didn’t expect to find you among these… losers," She feigned a look of shock, her mocking tone prompting laughter from her teammates.

"Too bad your arrogance alone won’t win you this tournament, Jiyang," Miyeon shot back, her voice steady and calm. Sohee, standing beside her, snickered while the rest of their team glared at the opposing captain. Their hatred evident on their faces.

Jiyang’s smirk only grew wider as she stepped closer, closing the distance between them a little more, her voice dripping with false sweetness, "Oh? Is Kim Miyeon feeling confident again? Is it because of dear dad?" Her voice was a taunt, loud enough for the nearby spectators to hear.

The gymnasium had fallen into a hushed silence, everyone now aware of the tension between the two.

Miyeon’s jaw tightened, but she held her ground her face hardening yet no emotions showing, “Not everyone needs their dad to make a name for themselves. So, what is it this time, Jiyang?” she said, her voice low but biting.

She could sense her teammates’ concern behind her as well as her friend's from the stands— especially Wonwoo, Jun, and Minghao, who were watching the exchange with confusion. Of course they would be confused afterall they weren't there when she practically threatened the other girl.

Her team remained silent, trusting her to handle the situation for now, though Hana stood nearby, ready to intervene.

“Was humiliating yourself at that party not enough? Or are you just desperate for more attention?”

Jiyang’s eyes flickered dangerously, but her smile never faltered. “Humiliate me?” she repeated, her voice soft but sharp. “Oh, Miyeon, I haven’t forgotten what you did that night. And I will make sure you pay for it— by crushing your hopes of winning this tournament.” Her smile turned cold. “But for now, you should worry about your team surviving against mine.”
