"As we embark on this tournament, we aim for an experience that is not only competitive but also fair and one that will be cherished as a lasting memory for many of you," Mr Park's voice echoed through the spacious gymnasium as he paused to gaze around at the not so eager faces of the participants.
"Following this, all visiting teams will be escorted to their respective dormitories. Thank you all and you are dismissed."
As soon as those words left Mr. Park's lips, everyone stood up, stretching their sore limbs. It took half an hour for the sports committee to brief everyone regarding the rules and everything else. All of them grew bored quickly by the time it was over.
Miyeon found herself caught between Sohee and Hara as Jeonghan and his team flanked her from behind. When the meeting adjourned, Miyeon abruptly made her way out of the gym, leaving those around her confused by her sudden change in behaviour.
Sohee hurried to catch up with her only pausing upon hearing someone call out Miyeon's name first.
"Miya!"
Miyeon came to a sudden halt, her heart racing from the sudden run as she took a deep breath. She turned around slowly, her eyes locking on the person who had just called her name.
With a puzzled expression and narrowed eyes, she questioned, "What?"
"What do you mean by 'what'? Aren't you happy to see me?" Wonwoo's brow furrowed with disappointment. Despite his intention to surprise her, she seemed more upset than pleased by his unexpected appearance.
"Oh, I am very happy to see you," she defended, crossing her arms and glancing over at Jeonghan, Joshua, Seungcheol, Mingyu, Taehyung and Sohee, observing from afar while the rest of the group began to scatter.
Jeonghan caught her eye, and his face contorted into an expression of extreme displeasure, which stood out starkly against the looks of curiosity and confusion on the faces of the others.
"It doesn't seem so," her eyes snapped back to Wonwoo, who looked a bit sad.
She let out a heavy sigh and said, "I'm truly happy to see you, Wonwoo, but I wish you had responded to my calls and texts. I was so worried about you that I had to call mom to ask how you were."
He looked at her with a guilty and sheepish smile. "I'm sorry. I knew if I talked to you, I would spill everything since I can't control my mouth around you. I wanted to surprise you and make you happy."
"By ignoring my texts for a week?" she raised an accusing brow, making him look around to escape the look.
As she shot him a piercing glance, her expression softened into a smile. Unable to hold onto her anger, she took a step forward and enveloped him in a tight embrace, feeling the warmth of his arms encircling her waist.
Their moment, though short-lived, was interrupted by a cough from behind them. The two broke their hug and turned to look at their interruption in human form.
Sohee stood with hands on her hips, shooting an annoyed glare at Taehyung, whose mischievous smile only seemed to escalate her frustration. Meanwhile, the rest of his friends stood behind them, casting curious glances at the unfolding scene.
"Yes?" Wonwoo questioned, looking around confused, but his eyes held a knowing look as they settled on the boys at the back.
"Uh, I'm Han Sohee, Miyeon's teammate," she introduced, extending her hand, which he took politely.
"Jeon Wonwoo."
Miyeon looked at them confused. Sighing, she moved forward to introduce the two parties.
