"I'm bad with words,
I hope you're good in reading eyes."
Yewon, Yewon, Yewon. The name echoed in Miyeon's mind for the rest of the day. It felt oddly familiar, though she couldn't pinpoint why. Still, that didn’t stop her from acing her basketball trial—surprising even herself since she hadn’t played in a year.
Overjoyed at making the team, Miyeon completely forgot about her promise to meet Nari after lunch. It wasn't until she returned to their dorm and saw Nari pouting on the sofa that guilt hit her hard.
'Fuck,' she thought, realizing her mistake.
Trying to avoid confrontation, she awkwardly slipped past Nari, who was visibly upset, and headed straight to her room. After a few moments of mustering up courage, Miyeon emerged, offering her best attempt at a sweet smile.
"Hey!" she greeted, attempting to lighten the mood.
"Don’t hey me, Kim Miyeon," Nari grumbled, crossing her arms as she stood up. "You said you’d meet me after lunch so we could go out. I waited for you for half an hour! You didn’t even answer your phone."
Miyeon’s heart sank. She cursed herself for forgetting to inform Nari about the basketball trials. "I'm genuinely sorry, Ri. It slipped my mind. I was too focused on going to the gym..."
"Gym?" Nari’s confusion replaced her anger.
"Uh… well… I kinda tried out for the basketball team and—"
"Did you get in?!" Nari’s eyes lit up with excitement, her anger melting away. That was Nari—unable to stay mad, especially at Miyeon.
"Yes." Before Miyeon could finish, Nari squealed and hugged her tightly. :I’m so proud of you, Miyeon! I mean it!"
Miyeon chuckled, hugging her back. "Thanks, Ri. I knew I could always count on you."
As they parted, Nari’s joyful grin didn’t fade. "You forgot about our plans, but since you’re on the basketball team now, this calls for a celebration.
"But—"
"No 'buts"!" Nari interrupted, pressing a finger to Miyeon’s lips. "I’m not asking. I’m telling you. You’ve got 20 minutes to get ready."
And just like that, Nari was gone, leaving Miyeon stunned, a disbelieving laugh escaping her lips. With a sigh, Miyeon walked to her wardrobe and selected a pale brown skirt and white shirt. She wasn’t in the mood to dig deep for something more extravagant, especially for her first meeting with Nari’s friends.
From what Miyeon had gathered from Seungkwan, Hoshi, and Seokmin, Nari’s circle consisted of children from some of Korea’s most prominent families. They were wealthy, high-class, and, as expected, carried a bit of an attitude. After all, three of them were the university’s heartthrobs.
Miyeon didn't feel nervous, though. She was past the stage where others' opinions dictated her self-worth. If they didn’t like her, it wouldn’t bother her—because not everyone mattered.

As promised, Nari returned precisely 20 minutes later. They took Nari's car, and soon they were outside a cozy restaurant. The inside was warm, with small wooden tables and booths lining the perimeter. It wasn’t too crowded—likely because it was a weekday.
Nari led Miyeon to a corner booth, where the sound of laughter filled the air. Miyeon noticed Nari smiling in the direction of the noise.
'That must be her friends,' Miyeon thought.
As they approached the table, the laughter died down, and five pairs of eyes turned to them—curious, or maybe sizing her up. They greeted Nari with hugs before turning their attention to Miyeon.
As they reached the table the laughter died down and five pair of eyes were looking at them curiously or at her. They looked over at Nari and greeted her with a hug. After they all met, Nari stepped back beside her and turned over to her friends.
"Guys, this is my best friend, Miyeon—the one who lived in China that I told you about," Nari introduced. Miyeon offered a polite smile and nod, which they returned.
"Hi, Miyeon! I'm Arin. It’s nice to finally meet you in person," a girl with long brown hair and dimples said, extending her hand. Miyeon found her immediately endearing.
"Likewise," Miyeon replied, shaking her hand.
Next to Arin was a boy who stood up, offering his hand with a smirk. His black, fluffy hair made her fingers itch to touch it, but she restrained herself.
He stood and extended his hand, a subtle smirk playing on his lips.
"Seungcheol. Choi Seungcheol. Pleased to meet you," he introduced himself.
"Same."
Another boy stood next, his demeanor gentle yet with a hint of mischief. His black hair complemented his attractive features. "I’m Joshua. Joshua Hong. Nice to meet you, Miyeon," he said, offering his hand. Miyeon smiled and shook it.
Next was a girl whose fox-like eyes were the first thing Miyeon noticed. Her shoulder-length hair, slightly longer than Miyeon’s, framed a face of confident beauty. "I’m Yeji. Hwang Yeji," she said with a smile, which Miyeon returned.
Finally, her gaze landed on the last boy, who had been watching her closely. His aura exuded boldness and confidence. He had long black hair tied back in a low ponytail, with bangs that framed his eyes. His beauty was both striking and delicate and it made her want to keep staring at him.
"Hi, I’m Yoon Jeonghan," he introduced himself. The way he carried himself and his charisma was enough to let her know that he drew a lot of girls in with it.
Miyeon met his gaze, neither backing down nor breaking eye contact until Nari interrupted them with a loud shout, forcing them both to look away.
"Okay, let’s sit down. I’m starving!" Nari exclaimed, prompting everyone to take their seats. Miyeon found herself next to Arin, while Nari sat across from her beside Jeonghan.
