It was just past nine in the morning when the sun began casting its golden light lazily across the cream walls of the ground floor bedroom.

The house was unusually silent. No clinking of dishes from the kitchen, no vacuum hum, no muffled chatter between maids about laundry and lunch menus or Riko and Mirae running around early in the morning, causing chaos.

It was Saturday, and the domestic staff was on their weekly leave, leaving the household in a rare hush that was both luxurious and inconvenient. Miyeon sat quietly at the edge of her bed, her fingertips grazing the familiar metal of her crutch as she glanced to her left.

There he was, Jeonghan, lying curled slightly on her bed, blanket draped haphazardly over his waist, one arm splayed over the pillow where she had slept earlier. His hair was a soft, sleepy mess, and his features were utterly peaceful in a way that made her chest ache a little.

Well, technically, he wasn’t supposed to be here.

Her father had very pointedly given him a separate guest room on the second floor when he arrived for the weekend like he had been doing ever since she got back home. But Jeonghan had a mind of his own and apparently, feet quiet enough to sneak across marble floors without Mirae the human security camera or her father noticing.

She let herself stare a little longer.

He had stayed up late with her the night before, as he had every night for the past few weeks, never once complaining.

Whenever her nightmares came, he was there, sometimes whispering, sometimes humming that quiet tune he knew calmed her better than anything else. His voice had become her lighthouse, her anchor in the dark. And now, he looked so exhausted.

She didn’t have the heart to wake him.

But she was hungry. Very hungry.

Her stomach grumbled in protest, and she sighed, placing a hand over her hoodie-covered abdomen as if that would silence it. She thought briefly about yelling for Mirae or maybe knocking on Wonwoo or Dino’s door for help, but everyone was tired. They had been running around all week, and the rare sleep-in was a well-deserved one.

So she did what every fiercely stubborn woman would do.

She decided to go to the kitchen herself.

Swinging her legs over the bed, she placed her foot down gently, already bracing herself for the soft burn that would shoot through her recovering leg. She reached for her crutches slowly and carefully, adjusting her hoodie and tugging the sleeves down her arms as if that made her feel more secure.
