There was a reason Miyeon dreaded being alone.

The silence always seemed too deafening, overpowering her thoughts, and amplifying the emotions she would rather suppress. It was a familiar feeling- one she'd spent years trying to avoid.

Yet, here she was, sitting in the sterile stillness of the infirmary, with nothing but the muted hum of the air conditioning and her own heartbeat echoing in her ears. She didn't even have her phone with her to play music to fill on the silence and it seemed to be biting her.

Her friends had done their best to keep her company, filling the room with their usual chatter and jokes. Dokyeom and Hoshi, ever the energetic pair, had swung by with Seungkwan in order to make her forget the loss she faced.

They'd spent a good few hours with her, sharing stories, cracking jokes, and making sure she ate lunch which was specially prepared for her by Hoshi's mother who was fond of the girl just by Hoshi's word about her. They had been relentless in their attempts to lift her spirits, knowing full well that she hated being left alone.

But eventually, they had to leave.

Even Seungcheol and Mingyu had made time to check in on her despite their busy schedules. They had been gentle in their concern, sitting with her briefly before heading back to practice for their upcoming match and with Mingyu being his usual joking self, she was glad for those few hours. She appreciated their efforts, but their departure left an even heavier weight on her chest.

Her eyes wandered to the ceiling, tracing the faint lines in the tiles, as she tried to distract herself. But it didn't work. The solitude in the room seemed to seep into her, making her acutely aware of every beat of her heart, every breath she took.

The feeling gnawed at her, reminding her of the things she tried to push away- the uncertainty, the vulnerability, the questions that remained unanswered about what had happened to her during the game. But most prompt was the feeling of the loss.

Something she trained herself for day and night yet it wasn't enough. Her efforts like always were never enough.

The quiet was louder than the noise of her own thoughts though. And in that silence, she couldn't escape herself.

Miyeon hadn't realized that when she returned to Korea, trying to forget the painful memories in China, she would unexpectedly find herself surrounded by people she would become so grateful for. People who genuinely cared about her- just like Nari and Wonwoo had always done.

But no one compared to the two of them. They had seen her at her worst, had stood by her through the darkest moments of her life. Specially Wonwoo who even was there when no one was. When everyone were against her. If it weren't for them, she wasn't sure where she would be now.
