"What will you do without me?"

Seungkwan asked, kneeling in front of Miyeon, carefully tying her shoelace. His gaze lifted to meet hers, his eyebrow raised in mock seriousness.

"Whatever I did before you showed up," Miyeon replied with a casual shrug, gripping his iced Americano in one hand while adjusting the strap of her bag. The sunlight was harsh, casting sharp shadows on the pavement, but she barely noticed it over the warmth of their banter.

"That’s how you thank me?" Seungkwan scoffed, standing up and dusting off his jeans before reclaiming his drink. "I’ll have to let your dad know about this terrible behavior."

"Don’t bother," she said with a light laugh, shaking her head.

"Why not?" His tone was teasing, but his curiosity was real.

"You'd regret it," she smirked, as the two continued walking. "He’s worse than me when he’s annoyed."

It had been two weeks since she returned from home. Wonwoo had decided to join a university not far from her yet half an hour away and told her that he would call her whenever he got time.

It was Wednesday when she was walking out of her dorm building and found Seungkwan waiting for her. He had told her that Hoshi and Seokmin were busy with the upcoming competition since next week and had gone off earlier than him to prepare for the same so he wanted to accompany her.

Halfway, she had nearly tripped on the footpath because of her untied laces if not for him and since then he had been reprimanding her for same. It had been fifteen minutes and he still wasn't done.

Seungkwan chuckled at her response, but his gaze suddenly shifted past her shoulder. "By the way..." he began, slowing his pace. Miyeon followed his line of sight to see Jeonghan, Seungcheol, Joshua, Mingyu, Nari, and Arin by the lockers, deep in conversation.

Nari had left early, citing some project work with Arin. Miyeon had wanted to ask her to stay, to talk, but the words never seemed to come out. She didn’t want to seem clingy or selfish.

"Is everything alright between you and Nari?" Seungkwan asked, his tone softening.

"Yeah," Miyeon answered a bit too quickly. She could feel Seungkwan’s knowing gaze on her. "Why?"

"I’ve noticed how you look at her, especially when she’s with the others." His voice was gentle, but there was an unmistakable note of concern. "It’s like you have something to say, but you don’t."

Miyeon shifted uncomfortably, adjusting her bag. "It’s nothing. She’s just busy with assignments. That’s all."

Seungkwan stopped walking and placed a hand on her shoulder, his tone becoming more sincere. "You know, I might act like the guy who just cracks jokes all the time, but I’m not oblivious. I see the way you look at her. You’re hurt, even if you won’t admit it."

"What are you talking about?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper, though she knew exactly what he meant. It bothered her more than she realized that her feelings were so transparent.

"I’m saying you need to talk to her," he urged. "Before it festers into something worse. If you don’t communicate, it might be too late to fix later."
