"And just like the Moon, she had a hidden dark side of her own. "
The past week had been relatively uneventful for Miyeon, with the weekend arriving as swiftly as a morning breeze. She found the university just bearable enough to stave off boredom, at least for now. Although most of her professors were lenient with assignments since it was only the first week, a few still assigned homework.Miyeon planned to go home for the weekend. Her mother had called the previous night, asking her to come over.
"You should come home for the weekend. Let’s all have dinner together," her mother had said.
Miyeon was supposed to be waiting for her driver to pick her up, but she found herself heading to the café instead. As she entered, the familiar sound of the welcoming bell rang out, drawing the attention of a certain boy behind the counter.
Taehyung looked up and saw her standing there, surveying the café. It was still early in the morning, so the place wasn’t crowded. When their eyes met, he smiled, and she walked over to him, returning the gesture.
“Hi,” she greeted him as she got close enough for him to hear.
“Hey!” he responded warmly.
A brief silence fell between them, both unsure how to start the conversation. To break the awkwardness, Miyeon cleared her throat, drawing his attention back. “One cappuccino, please,” she said.
He nodded and entered her order into the register. “Anything else?” he asked, raising an eyebrow.
She shook her head and made her way to a table in the far corner of the café. It was a secluded spot, away from prying eyes. As she sat down, she looked out the window and noticed the sky gradually turning a darker shade of gray. Soon, rain began to fall, not too heavy but steady—a gentle drizzle.
It was her favorite kind of weather.
Miyeon loved the rain. The earthy scent after it rains, the cold breeze that played with her hair as if caressing her head—she loved it all. She especially adored the way the sky darkened, as if the sun were playing hide and seek with the clouds, with the rain as the distraction.
“They did say it was going to rain today,” a voice said suddenly, making her flinch. She turned to find Taehyung standing beside her, holding her drink.
“You startled me,” she said, placing a hand over her chest.
“Oh, sorry. I didn’t mean to,” he apologized, his expression genuinely contrite. He wore a white shirt with black trousers, and an apron was tied around his waist. After giving her an apologetic look, he turned to gaze out the window.
“Do you like the rain?” he asked out of nowhere.
Miyeon glanced at him, surprised by the question. He was standing just beside her, leaning slightly to place her drink on the table. The proximity made her acutely aware of his presence, and she quickly diverted her gaze from his face to his eyes, only to find him still looking outside. There was a depth in his gaze, as if he was holding back something he wished to share.
“I love the rain,” she answered honestly, watching as a rain drop slpashed against the window looking ever so refreshing.
He looked back at her, and as if suddenly realizing how close he was, he stepped back, creating some distance before sitting down in front of her.
“Is the café usually this empty at this time?” she asked, glancing around the nearly deserted room. Only one other customer, a girl working on her laptop, was present.
