Engin entered a coffee room on the fourth floor and reached for a cup. He rubbed his tired eyes while trying to blindly pour himself a coffee. He was exhausted after a sleepless night due to a sudden system collapse. Not only did he have to sacrifice his weekend, but also, as a freshly promoted head of the IT department, he felt a personal obligation to be present at any data restoration work. He didn't want to screw up his first week after getting a raise.
He was too tired to notice that a door opened and someone entered inside. Only when he felt a presence behind his back, he got startled and almost spill a coffee on his shirt.
"You scared the crap out of me!" Engin turned around to see a young man standing in front of him and grinning widely. "Do you always sneak behind people's backs?"
The man tilted his head to the side and answered with a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Yes, I like it a lot."
Engin frowned, looking at the stranger's smile. He had never seen anybody so happy to be at work so early on Monday morning. Anybody except for Eda Yildiz, but she was completely a different breed. He even suspected she wasn't a human but a representative of a much more superior species, who didn't need to sleep at all nor shared any of the other human weaknesses.
"Hi, I'm Serkan." The man smiled brightly at Engin, who zoned out for a second, immersed in his thoughts about what kind of plant his CEO could originate from.
"Engin." He extended his hand. "I'm from IT. Are you new here?"
"Yes." Serkan shook his hand vigorously. "I just started my work as Eda Yildiz's personal assistant."
"Oh man, I'm sorry for you already."
"Why?" Serkan walked to one of the bottom cabinets and started to pull something out of it. "That bad?"
"She terrifies me." Engin shuddered and looked down to find out that his new colleague was just putting on the counter an old coffee machine. "Aren't you afraid of her?"
"No, more like impressed. She's very smart and beautiful." Serkan pointed at the coffee machine. "Don't you use this one anymore?"
"No, we have new ones that can make all that fancy shit with just one click, but better not take it outside of the building."
"Don't worry. I have one at my parent's. This one makes so much better coffee. You're missing out."
"Whatever." Ening leaned against the counter, sipping his coffee and observing, how Serkan was dusting the old coffee machine. He asked teasingly. "So, do you have a crush on her?"
"I do, and I need help."
Engin was surprised by the sincerity and forwardness of his new college, but he wasn't sure if he should get too attached to him as at this pace, this poor guy wouldn't be working here for too long if Eda Yildiz would find out about what he just said, but Serkan didn't look worried about his position at all as he smiled confidently.
"You are an IT manager. All the office orders are coming through the system. I want to know what she had for lunch for the past year, what she drinks, and what pens and pencils she likes. I have to impress her. Even the weight of the paper, everything has to be perfect."
"Ambitious task." Engin nodded. "Are you sure it's worth the effort?"
"Oh, it is." Serkan smiled, lifting the heavy coffee machine from the counter and turning toward the door. "I'm going to marry this girl. See you later, Engin."
He left the room, greeting a man who just entered inside, while Ening was looking after him still in slight disbelief when Ferit approached him with a knowing smile.
