CHAPTER 351

The Seventh Fleet Assembles

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Japanese Navy's Seventh Fleet was deployed to Ceylon.
It was commanded by former Vice Admiral Gonzaburō Takemoto, who was probably the most experienced in the Japanese Navy in operating submersible surface vessels.
This fleet secured control over the eastern side of the Indian Ocean, from the Bay of Bengal to Sumatra and the Malay Peninsula, and carried out commerce raiding activities in the Arabian Sea, where the transport ships of the Otherworldly Empire traveled. The fleet's strength had been increased since the capture of Ceylon last year.
The fleet increased its number of battleships from two to three. The Bismarck-class battleship Bismarck was refurbished, renamed Oki, and added to the Seventh Fleet. Its main guns, originally 38 cm twin turrets, were replaced with 45-caliber 41 cm twin turrets, the basic equipment of the Japanese Navy's battleships. The propulsion system was also changed to a magic type, enabling underwater operation.
