CHAPTER SIXTY

Act 4~Chapter thirteen: Talking through lights

After discovering that they could communicate to the Upside Down through the lights, they went into the living room where Holly was lying on the floor on her stomach, playing with her Lite-Brite. Lucas went over to the plug and unplugged the machine, causing Holly to let out a shout in protest. Her older brother let out a quick 'sorry' as Dustin took it from in front of her and Avery grabbed the pieces for it. Erica gave her a candy bar "for her understanding" and ran, following the others. The group ran then into Nancy's room, putting the Lite-Brite on her bed, putting all of the pieces in and plugging it in, allowing it to light up so those in the Upside Down could see where it was.

"Okay, you guys seeing this?" Dustin shouted to the older teens.

The lights on the machine began to light up brighter, showing them that they had heard Dustin, and did see where the Lite-Brite was.

"Holy shit!"
"Oh, thank God."

"We're not moving it, but we're gonna unplug it. Stand by," Dustin told them.

"Yank it," Mike told Lucas, who pulled the plug back out.

"Okay, try it now," Dustin shouted. The letters H and I appeared a few seconds later.

"Hi!"
"Hey! Hi!"
"Hey guys!"
"Hey!"

"That worked!" Dustin happily said. A few seconds later, another word began to show up. An S, T and a U shown up.

""Stu...""
"Stupid? Stupid?

Then a C and a K shown up.

"Stuck," Avery read out.

"They're stuck in the Upside Down," Lucas realised.

"Uh, you can't get back through Watergate?" Dustin asked them. Another few seconds later a 'G' shown up on the board.

"Is that a 6?"
"No it's a G."

"U... A... R..." they read out.

"Guar?" Dustin sounded out.

"D... E... D."

"Okay. Uh, Watergate's guarded," Mike said.

"We think we have a theory that can help with that," Dustin told them, "We think Watergate isn't the only gate. That there's a gate at every murder site." However, the older group clearly did not understand as a large question mark appeared on the Lite-Brite.

"Okay. Seriously?" Dustin yelled, "How many times do I have to be right on the money before you guys just trust me?"

A slight plan was put in place that they would go to Eddie's trailer, and if Dustin's theory was correct, a gate would be there and they could bring Nancy, Eddie, Robin and Steve back to their world and out of the Upside Down.

When Max came out of the room after having her private interrogation, Dustin called her over to get her away from the cops. Max snook away from the adults and walked over to Dustin who brought her up to Nancy's room, where the others were waiting.

Mike opened up the window as Avery explained everything to her, although she didn't necessarily understand, she wanted to get out of the house. They climbed out of Nancy's window onto the roof that was covering the kitchen and then jumped down to the ground. They then ran to the garage, grabbed a bike each and began to bike away.
