Y/n's POV
It's March, the middle of the semester. I've just moved back to my childhood home, Forks, after spending the last decade and a half living in Phoenix with my mother and twin sister. Bella and I decided to move here so mother could travel with her new husband Phil who's a minor league baseball player.
This meant moving back with our father.
Things are... different. Unlike Rene, Charlie doesn't hover. It's refreshing finally having a bit of freedom. Back home, mother coddled me, I wasn't allowed to leave the house alone, attend school, hangout with the local teens. I couldn't even be in the kitchen alone.
She had a valid reason for the extra precautions though.
Dad he's a little more relaxed, probably out of the awkwardness of not having seen Bella and I since we were six. Still it was nice to have my space and to not be treated like some fragile little girl.
Sorta...
He does worry and has Bella chaperoning me but Bella knows better than anyone that I can handle myself in most situations. Instead she's more of a shadow only intervening when she needs to.
I sigh as I reach for the passenger door of the truck. My hands run along the cold surface of the door as I look of the handle to pop it open. When I hear a knock on the window I do just that and allow Bella to pull the door open.
"Need help?" She asks.
"Can you just hold these for me? I can use the door to help myself down." I replied, handing her my bag and jacket. Gripping the side of the door I slowly lower myself out of the truck.
"Thanks." I say to Bella as she hands me my coat. I pull it over my shoulders before repeating the actions with my bag.
"Ready?" She asks once more.
"Yeah." I reply as my sister holds out her arm for me to take. I take in the loud noises of the school's care park, listening to the squelch of shoes against the wet roads of Washington.
"Nice ride." A deep voice chimes as we walk by.
"Thanks." Bella mumbles while I ignore the male sounding voice. We continue across the car park and I can feel the stares of students on us.
"We're attracting a lot of attention." I comment.
"Small town kids aren't used to new students. Careful there's a few steps." Bella replies, placing a hand on my back and holding my hand as she guides me up the steps.
We enter the school building with Bella holding the door open for me. Once inside we head straight to the front offices.
"Isabella and Y/n Swan." My sister says to the person tapping away at the keyboard behind the desk.
"Your schedules are just being printed, it might take a moment." The woman says as Bella replies with a quiet confirmation before leading us over to some nearby chairs.
"It's strange being the new kid." Bella chimes.
I hum as I listen closely in on the bustling corridors. "This school sounds a lot quieter than I'd imagine a school to sound like." I assess. Having been homeschooled my entire life, I was rather surprised by the not so loud hallways Bella would always come home complaining about back in Phoenix.
"I hadn't noticed. All schools sound the same to me." Bella says with what I assume is a shrug given her bored tone of voice.
"Y/n and Isabella Swan, your schedules." The receptionist calls on us. With help from my sister I am guided to the front desk once more where we collect our schedules.
Bella reads from hers while I trails my hand along mine reading the indentations of letters on it closely. Bella eventually moved to read mine, probably checking if we had any classes together despite knowing that it's impossible for her and I to attend the same classes.
"Do you want help finding your way?" Bella asks.
"If you wouldn't mind. I wouldn't want you to be late." I chime.
"It's fine." She says offering her arm which I take once more. We stroll the corridors which are filled with kids filtering in out of the cold wet rain to get to classes early since the halls were too crowded to hangout in.
"There's someone approaching from behind." I state quietly, not too soon before a male's voice jumps out fine behind to in front of us.
"You're Y/n and Isabella Swan, the new girls. Hi, I'm Eric, the eyes and ears of this place. Anything you need, tour guide, lunch date, shoulder to cry on?" The boy named Eric says as a way of introduction as we continue to make our way through the halls.
"Uh." I laugh awkwardly.
"We're really the kind of more suffer - in - silence types." Bella quickly chimes knowing that I can struggle with certain and sudden social queues such as this.
"Good headline for your feature. I'm in the paper and you two are news, front page." Eric says.
Now it was Bella turn to stutter. "No... uh I mean, you um... please don't have any sort of..." She trails off.
"Woah, woah, chillax. No features." Eric says dropping the subject.
"Thanks." I say in a soft voice perking up for the first time.
"Cool." Eric says.
"We best be off Bella. It was nice meeting you Eric." I say holding my hand out. I wait a moment before the boy takes it. Bella and I continue on our way. "That was nice. What's the class you got first?" I ask.
"Yeah it was. Physical Ed." Bella replied, turning down another corridor.
"They put your uncoordinated butt in Phys Ed?" I tease.
"Speak for yourself." She laughs. "We're here." She says as I reach out for the door handle with some guidance from Bella.
"I'll see you at lunch?" I ask.
"Of course." Bella replied. With a smile I open the door and enter the classroom. Bella handed my forms to the teacher before helping me to a seat and saying goodbye. Five minutes later the classroom, though small, was filled with students.
"Okay class, today we have a new student joining us. Y/n? Would you like to introduce yourself?" The teacher, a female, asks.
Standing from my seat and remaining put, I address the class keeping my head straight in what I assumed to be the direction the teacher is stood in.
"Hello everyone, my name is Y/n Swan... and I'm blind."
