Y/n's POV
Hours passed since Bella and I were brought to the hospital under a fake excuse on how we got our injuries. Before they brought me in Carlisle advised us to remove the knife from my shoulder so as not to raise suspicion.
I know, I know, if you're stabbed you should never pull the blade out.
Well while Jasper hesitated I didn't.
Ripping the blade from my shoulder with a grunt and holding the wound to ease the flow of blood. Jasper tensed at my actions and I hadn't seen him since. Emmett was the one to help me inside and to be seen by a doctor.
Our infamous excuse we used was that Bella had pulled into one of the Cullens hotels after Edward, Carlisle and I had come down to try and convince Bella to come back to Forks. As such I tripped while walking up the stairs and pulled Bella down with me. While she went through the window and managed to catch myself before plummeting off the second floor.
It wasn't long before I had been patched up; however Bella had to be rushed into surgery. I sat waiting anxiously in the waiting room for my sister with Edward and Carlisle.
"Y/n, maybe you should try to ring your dad or your mum." Carlisle suggests while handing me his phone.
"Umm sure, do you mind typing the number in though." I say awkwardly.
"Of course." I heard the smile in his voice as I told him my dad's number and he clicked the dial button handing me the phone. Dad picked up on the second ring and as soon as he heard my voice he bombarded me with questions.
I explained the entire fake situation to him and asked him to call mum. He demanded to know what hospital we were in so I told him. He said he'd be there by tomorrow. I sighed thanking Carlisle and handing him his phone.
Honestly I was exhausted.
I got comfortable in my seat and allowed myself to drift off. However my sleep was disturbed as I recalled every sound of the pre and post fight I heard. I was startled when someone called out for the family of Bella Swan.
With guidance from Carlisle I stood up and walked over to the doctor who explained her condition. Overall she was stable but it might be a few days before she wakes. Her leg would have to be in a cast until her bone healed, while the other leg needed to be bandaged up until her wound healed. She had stitches to the back of her head as well as her wrist and leg.
I thanked the doctor, asking what room she was in. Edward helped me to her room while Carlisle left. Once inside we both sat at Bella's side anxiously waiting for her to wake up. At some point I had fallen asleep and woke up late into the morning the next day when my mother barged through the room.
It was a hassle to calm her down for she was ever one for dramatics but after a while she silenced. I decided to leave her for a while to get some fresh air as I woke up. I cared very little for how I looked and with the guidance of the walls and nearby nurses I found my way outside.
I leant against the entrance wall sighing.
"Everything alright?" A southern drawl startled me.
"Jasper." I reached out, finding my hand in his. "Where did you go?" I asked.
There was a moment of silence as he pondered what it said. "Let's take a drive, we have a lot to talk about." He suggests leaving no room for protest as he leads me to the car he borrowed. He helps me into the passenger seat and for a while we sit in silence until he pulls off to the side of the road somewhere and turns to me.
"I wanted to kill you...When we first met. I'd never wanted a human's blood so much in my life." Jasper is the first to break the silence.
"My family, we're different from others of our kind. We only hunt animals. We've learned to control our thirst. Well most of us. I was the last to join the covan in 1949. Unlike my other siblings, I had a rather different vampire upbringing. As such I've always struggled to control my thirst." I listen closely to his story allowing him to explain.
"But it's you, your voice, your scent, it's like a drug to me. You're like my own personal brand of heroin." He then said in an intense voice.
"As if it wasn't hard enough to contain my urges." I could feel his all too familiar gaze connecting to mine, lighting that fire that always burnt between us when they did.
"Is that why you distanced yourself so much when we met?" I asked.
"I did. Only for making me want you so badly. I still don't know if I can control myself." He admits.
"Jasper..." I trail off.
"Not many vampires approve of our families choice of diet thinking it disgraceful." He pauses. "When I finally left the south all I wanted was a quiet and peaceful life. When Carlisle and Esme found me struggling with my thirst among other things, they brought me in and showed me their way of life."
"Carlisle was the first of us, he mastered the animal blood diet. A vampire is driven by their urges for blood. I know that better than anyone. For Carlisle to master this way of life was resolutionary. He even managed to stay in control when he turned Edward and his wife Esme, when both were on their deathbeds." Jasper spoke of his father-like figure with admiration.
"So, does a person have to be dying to become like you?" I ask.
"No, that's just Carlisle. He'd never do this to someone who had another choice." Jasper clarifies as I nod.
"So, how long have you been like this?" I curiously ask.
There was a long moment of silence.
"Since 1863, that's when I met a certain immortal... Maria."
