Y/n's POV
I wasn't exactly fond of the idea of bringing the wolves into the situation. Not because of what happened with Paul but because someone could get hurt. I worried for both the vampires and the wolves. Yet Bella was determined to involve them to help ease the burden on the Cullens.
In the days that followed, We got them to at least try to work together. The wolves took over so the Cullens could hunt. It wasn't exactly an easy alliance. Not by a long shot and tensions were only heightened when Paula and Jasper were forced to interact even if only for a split second.
I sighed as I sat in the back seat of the Volvo Edward borrowed to drive Bella and I down to the treaty line. I hadn't exactly had a moment alone to talk with Paul since the whole ordeal. Though I could always sense him watching me when he was sent to watch over us.
After a few exchanges between Bella, Edward and Jacob with me awkwardly standing by, a long day of chilling with Jacob ensues which to be honest wasn't nearly as fun as it used to be.
Later that night though Bella and I attended a party which we later discovered to be a council meeting to introduce the newcomers to the tribe's history.
Seth greeted us on arrival, commenting about saving us some food as Paul had been hoovering up the grub. I giggled slightly knowing well Paul was a big eater. Kinda annoying actually cause if I eat too much I bloat like a bitch.
Anyway I sat with Seth and Leah who I surprisingly got along well with as we all listened in closely to the story. As Billy spoke I could almost imagine the story playing out in my mind.
"The Quileutes have been a small tribe from the beginning, but we have always had magic in our blood. We were great spirit warriors, shape-shifters that transformed to the powerful wolf. This enabled us to scare off our enemies and protect our tribe." Billy begins to tell us as from across the fire. I felt a seering stare burning into me. My eyes searched blindly around before they made the invisible connection with the owner.
I gulped, tilting my head down as I was quick to identify who was staring at me. It was Paul and despite the weeks that had passed I still sensed the anger in his gaze alongside this guilt. It made me feel bad that I'd been deliberately avoiding him where and when I could.
"One day, our warriors came across a creature. It looked like a man, but it was hard like stone and cold as ice. Our warriors' sharp teeth finally tore it apart, but only fire would completely destroy it. They lived in fear that the cold man was not alone. And they were right." Billy continues as I zone back in closing my eyes. I felt the images I was imagining take over my mind, ignoring Paul's now curious gaze from across the fire.
"She took her vengeance out on the village. Our elder chief, Taha Aki, was the only spirit warrior left to save the tribe after his son was killed. Taha Aki's third wife could see that he would lose. The third wife was no magical being, with no special powers but one, courage. The third wife's sacrifice distracted the cold woman long enough for Taha Aki to destroy her. She saved the tribe." The images faded from my mind as my eyes opened, Billy's voice having faded out to allow a moment for everyone to reflect upon what was said.
