Such was the strength of Caresius, enough to demonstrate how powerful the ancient sorcerers had been.
Obviously, regardless of what treasures might be hidden in the ruins, he was not going to enter to discover them.
From a rational perspective, his cautious view was absolutely correct.
Faced with unknown and powerful forces beyond his capacity, it was best to stay away from them rather than make random contact. Otherwise, they might not even see their own death coming.
But there was a premise in this matter. If Evan had not contacted the evil god, if Voldemort had not taken the statue of the evil god, he would have followed Caresius' advice and left. But now, he had no other choice.
The most important object in the Temple, the statue of the evil god, had been removed. There should be no other major danger left in it...
From the memories of the Centaurs' ancestor, Okegiga, it could be seen that he encountered no obstacles inside the building. He entered the center of the ruins very easily at that time, and didn't even encounter the Manticore.
Moreover, there was another point that made Evan firmly believe in entering to investigate.
Gryffindor himself must know about this. Since he showed him Okegiga's memory in his illusion, he must have expected him to reach this place. There might be a way to defeat the evil god in these ancient relics.
It couldn't be something beyond Evan's ability to overcome. Otherwise, Gryffindor certainly wouldn't have spoken to him about it.
Thinking about this, Evan decided to act as planned.
"Thank you for your advice, Caresius, but still, I want to enter and take a look. It would be best to set a trap here and then lure the Manticore out. You control it and give me time. I'll be back in an hour," said Evan, signaling for Buckbeak to land.
"Hmph, if you wish to die, I won't stop you," Caresius said, looking at Evan with cold eyes and added slowly, "Remember, I'll only wait for you here for an hour. If you don't return, I will leave directly and not inform anyone else."
Evan didn't respond. He took the package from Caresius, jumped off Buckbeak, and began to prepare the trap.
The mud on the ground was soft, there wasn't much water, and it wasn't sticky like a swamp.
Evan buried the trap activation device that would capture the magical creature underground, and then placed Nogtail meat on it. He also sprinkled a large amount of potions, which had a certain anesthetic effect. Although he didn't know if it would work on the Manticore, it didn't seem like a bad idea to try.
The Manticore had abundant emotions and superb language ability, but its violent nature prevented it from thinking carefully.
Most of the time, it would make impulsive decisions, obeying its instinct and falling into traps.
Evan mounted Buckbeak and they waited in silence in the air.
Soon after, a huge red lion emerged from the entrance of the ruins.
It was about the size of Hagrid, and where there should normally be a lion's face, there was the face of a middle-aged man.
The head was surrounded by long red hair, and the most striking feature was the large ugly nose on the face, with red eyes above.
His eyes were as red as a vampire's, but they didn't have the profound red of Caresius nor Elaine's charming crimson, but a blood red, full of anger...
Three rows of long sharp fangs protruded from his mouth, indicating to all that it was not a human face. There were also two long black horns above the Manticore's head. The horns were thick, round in sections, and curved backward, like those of male gazelles.
But more precisely, it looked like an evil demon.
On both sides of its ribs were a pair of cyan wings. Having the ability to fly, there was no doubt that the Manticore was even more dangerous.
At the end of its tail was a deadly stinger resembling that of a scorpion, much larger than that of an ordinary scorpion sting. It seemed to have been enlarged by an Amplification Enchantment. It gleamed with a tearing green light and was highly toxic. Being stung by it meant death in the blink of an eye...
The Manticore, emerging from the ruins, did not see Evan and Caresius. It saw the food and emitted a soft hum.
The sound was sweet and melodious, mixed with the distant magnetic whisper, possessing a certain magical charm.
It was its custom to catch and devour prey. All creatures that heard the hum became immersed in it, unaware that death awaited them.
The Manticore that emerged from the ruins did not pause but lunged directly towards the pile of meat stacked like a hill.
"Bingo!" exclaimed Evan, delighted. Things were going better than he had expected.
The wand in Caresius's hands rose high. In the next moment, six thick chains emerged from the ground, swirling in the air with the sound of blows, rising from below, falling from the sky at great speed. The trap tightly ensnared the Manticore that was enjoying its feast.
Suddenly attacked, the beast seemed somewhat surprised, as if it did not understand what was happening.
Upon seeing the chains around it, a furious look reflected on its face.
It spread out all its blue wings and began to howl terribly, shaking with force, trying to break free from the control of the chains.
Its muscles were taut, its eyes bulging, and its scorpion tail pounding the ground, creating a massive crater.
The chains stretched to their limit, producing a metallic sound.
The Manticore was extremely powerful and struggled against the strength of the magical chains. With a resounding crash, one of the chains broke.
Evan, who was guiding Buckbeak, felt somewhat surprised. This was dreadful!
Those chains were as thick as his arms and very tough. It was said they were even suitable for facing a fire dragon. Evan did not expect them to break so easily. It was evident that the Manticore was in a league completely different from any other magical creature he had ever witnessed!
"Leave the monster to me, hurry!" whispered Caresius.
He seemed unconcerned that the chain had broken, turned around, and leaped off Buckbeak's back.
Just then, a strange arc of red and black circular light flickered, his body vanished into the air, and then appeared out of nowhere in front of the furious Manticore.
Compared to the enormous Manticore, Caresius's slender figure looked very small. His pale face was expressionless; he pointed his wand forward and uttered a curse.
In the next instant, countless tiny red chains appeared on the firmly trapped Manticore.
The Manticore, having found its target, let out a terrible roar. Even though its whole body was entwined in chains, it carried them still and lunged towards Caresius, aiming to tear him apart.
There was no time to pay attention to the battle between the two. After Caresius advanced, Evan did not stop.
He controlled Buckbeak to fly towards the entrance of the nearby ruins. It was a huge hole turned into a nest by the Manticore.
The entrance was wide and very easy for Evan to enter...
