Evan didn't know what to say; he never thought Ron would be so unlucky!
The demeanor of this Chinese Fire Dragon was overly docile. It simply clung to the eggs and didn't budge. Ron's harassment had no effect whatsoever.
Had it been the Hungarian Horntail, and had Ron dared to provoke it, it would have swiftly flown ferociously towards him.
However, the Chinese Fire Dragon wasn't that kind of aggressive dragon; it seemed to possess an exceptionally gentle nature. Now that Ron couldn't touch him, and Ron's magic had no effect on him, he just lay there protecting his eggs, seemingly indifferent to Ron flying in the sky.
From his perspective, if he was merely a bothersome fly, let it fly. That was likely what he thought.
While devising the operational plan, they had tried to overestimate the dragon's power as much as possible, fearing accidents. They had not expected this kind of scenario at all.
"No, this one's temperament is so good that the plan failed!" Hermione said anxiously.
"Ron's magical power is too weak to break the dragon's defense," Evan remarked, "This dragon won't pay him any mind."
"What should we do now?" Harry asked anxiously, realizing the situation was quite dire.
Ron had now spent more time than Krum and Fleur combined, and the judges would likely call an end to the task at any moment.
If that happened, Ron, who had not obtained the egg, would receive a very low score.
If it were Evan, he would leap off the broomstick and attack from the ground.
Regardless, with the aid of the Fire Protection Potion, the Hungarian Horntail's fire would have no effect, and he would sustain no losses in a direct confrontation.
But it was too daunting a task for Ron. He was unwilling to relinquish his advantage and descend from the secure Firebolt.
He lacked the courage to take that step, and he couldn't face the dragon like Krum.
In his opinion, that wasn't much different from walking toward his own demise.
He pressed the broomstick down once more, inching a bit closer to the dragon, and continued using magic to provoke it.
The red light of the spell fell upon the Chinese Fire Dragon and bounced off as if merely tickling it.
It seemed determined that if Ron didn't come down from the broomstick, it wouldn't even bother with him. Even the fire it had been spewing at Ron had ceased!
Ron anxiously circled the dragon for a few turns, unable to find a suitable opening for an attack.
The only magic that could harm the dragon now was the Conjunctivitis Curse, but the Chinese Fire Dragon had tucked its head beneath its wings...
As time passed, the audience began chattering again.
The screams, the commotion, and the cheers elicited by the sudden appearance of the Firebolt gradually quieted down, and the match gradually descended into a dull waste of time.
The Slytherins collectively shouted for Ron to come down from the broomstick.
Ron gritted his teeth, realizing that continuing like this was futile. He suddenly recalled the Bloodlust spell Krum had mentioned.
Upon returning to the tent, he couldn't help but to ask Krum, who explained that this simple magic was very effective against dragons but not easily wielded.
Ron didn't understand why he couldn't use it. Before Krum could explain, Bagman called him to compete.
The current situation was far from ideal, and Ron had no other way out.
The battle plan formulated by Evan and Hermione for him had failed, and Ron's mind was in turmoil.
He couldn't think of any new approach, nor could he rush to ask them what to do.
Only this path remained, Ron made a decision.
He gripped the broomstick and once again flew towards the Chinese Fire Dragon.
"It's no use, Ron," shouted Harry, rushing towards the stands, "Come down from the broomstick!"
Evan had just conveyed his thoughts, and Harry was eager to relay them to Ron.
"I wish I could have appeared earlier. He is wasting his time, his magic..." Hermione sighed.
"Wait, this spell seems to be a bit off!" Evan suddenly exclaimed, rising to his feet.
He had a foreboding feeling. They were very close and could clearly see a dark green light emanating from the tip of Ron's wand, hurtling towards the dragon.
Ron waved his wand. In the moment the magic took shape, he felt his soul pouring into the wand.
He shook his head, feeling dizzy, and depleted all his magic.
Ron could only watch as a dark green light formed at the tip of his wand, a magical light he had never seen before.
"Cursed magic!" Evan immediately recognized the spell Ron was using.
Just the day before, he had discussed this spell with Caresius. This bloodthirsty dark spell could enrage the dragon and drive it insane.
Since they had just talked about it, Evan was deeply impressed.
The Bloodthirst Curse was not a harmful spell and could not be defended by the dragon's skin. Dragons, by nature, are fierce and highly susceptible to the Bloodthirst Curse.
Evan didn't know how Ron had learned this magic. Evan was vehemently opposed to him using this spell!
The Bloodthirst Curse was a restricted dark magic. It was too dangerous and easily spiraled out of control.
As soon as Evan drew his wand, he heard Harry shout, "Look, Ron has succeeded! The dragon has reacted!"
Almost instantly, the dragon lifted its neck and let out a horrific roar that echoed throughout the audience.
Its angry eyes turned completely blood-red and fiercely fixed on Ron. It extended its enormous scarlet scaly wings, as wide as those of a small plane, and the Chinese Fire Dragon rose from the ground towards Ron.
It worked! Ron was ecstatic.
He sped away on his Firebolt and soon outpaced the dragon.
As he kept ascending, he didn't notice that the dragon behind him wasn't following.
Ron wasn't its only target. Under the influence of dark magic, the dragon completely lost its reason, driven only by its brutal and deathly nature. Now it was enraged and, unable to find Ron, charged straight towards the nearest audience.
It had only one idea, to burn these pesky insects to death!
Evan was there; everything happened too fast, and the young wizards in the audience continued to applaud and shout.
But in the blink of an eye, they saw the towering giant suddenly appear before them.
Loud winds stirred by the flapping of its wings resounded in their ears, and its great shadow enveloped them entirely.
The young wizards gazed in astonishment at the Chinese Fire Dragon that had suddenly appeared before them, with a fierce and terrible mouth filled with sharp fangs and a strange fringe of golden spikes around its face resembling a lion's mane. And from its mouth spewed a red flame of white gas that gleamed like magma.
The Chinese dragon unfolded its wings in front of the audience, and the deep red flame was about to burst forth from its slender nostrils.
The flame melded with the scales of its body, creating a dazzling red lotus.
