Almost 6 years later, December of 2024.
I sat on a chair behind the counter of the shop. My back was screaming for help from standing up all day preparing coffee and gingerbread cookie orders for every single customer I've ever had. But I was used to it at that point. It was Christmas season, every other coffee shop and bakery in town was going crazy with orders too.
Honestly, I was only resting because I had closed the shop for the day, otherwise, I'd still be working. I had promised Diego I would attend little Grace's birthday party with Five later, so I made space in my agenda just for it. It had been a while since I saw my entire family together. More specifically, since my wedding, three years ago.
Five did end up taking me to choose a ring that day, but we only managed to get properly married the day our appearance was convincing enough for it to be considered legal. For a while I had to use my first surname, the one I got from my birth mother, just so we didn't have to explain why we had the same surname already. It would be weird, weirder than explaining why his name was a number. But anyways, we were back to Y/n and Five Hargreeves.
Diego and Lila were also married and had three beautiful kids, including little Grace. Luther was a mystery to me, all I knew was that he had a job. Viktor opened his own bar, just like I opened my own coffee shop. Ben was in jail for some money scheme gone wrong. Klaus was living with Allison, who was back with her daughter, but sadly, her husband, who she had met back in the 60's, had passed away soon after the reset. Not everything was perfect. But we were living. We were just like any other person you'd see on the street.
Speaking of what we were all doing, Lila ended up being a bit right about Five. He couldn't enjoy a simplistic and easy life. Not long after we got married and were recognized as proper adults, he got a job. At the CIA.
Don't ask me why the CIA had employed what looked like a freshly turned 19-year-old. I didn't know either. But he was fine with it, so I was too.
Speaking of the devil, Five walked inside the shop, the tiny bell on top of the door ringing a soft tune. I raised my eyes from the nail polish I was applying to my nails, meeting his gaze. We both smiled at the same time.
_"Welcome back, Jerome."-I teased the boy, calling him by his fake name. He was using that in a recent case of his. Something about a group of people believing we're all in a different timeline. Yes, we were, but how the hell did they know that?
_"Not my name, love."-He walked towards the counter, leaning down and giving me a quick peck on the lips. I smiled into the kiss, getting up from my chair.
_"How was work?"-I asked him, turning my back to him so I could prepare him a black coffee. It was the simplest one to make, so it was fine.
_"Same as always. Boss wants me to drop the Keepers case, move on to something else."
_"And you don't want that, do you?"-I put the mug under the coffee machine, waiting for the liquid to drip. I didn't even notice Five had come to the other side of the counter until his hands wrapped around my waist.
_"I swear I'm onto something. I'm making progress."-His voice turned softer as he was closer to me now.
_"Then go for it."-The aroma of fresh coffee filled the space. It was a calming sensation for the both of us.
_"And risk losing my job?"
_"If you get good results, they can't fire you. And you just said you're making progress, so..."-Five started peppering the crook of my neck with small kisses, making me stop speaking in the middle of my phrase. I chuckled lightly, reaching a hand behind me to touch his hair.
