never enough

I gave my all, yet winds betrayed,
my best, it seems, began to fade.
Time like a river slipped away,
no matter how I begged it stay.

I reached the gates where few have gone,
where words collided, dusk till dawn.
Hope, a flame that flickered bright,
now has drowned, is out of sight.

But as the final door swung wide,
it closed before I crossed inside.
The heights I climbed, the race I ran,
yet still I fell, despite the plan.

I thought I held them in my hand,
yet dreams slipped through, like grains of sand.
I really tried, but didn't succeed,
my hope was crushed,
by expectations I didn't meet.
