After arriving in the late hours of last night from Poland, Joe and I find ourselves grateful for letting the girls follow their body's routine while we were gone. It let us be able to come home and still be on schedule, the girls waking up at their regular time and at once being ready to take on the day. Joe and I on the other hand... were not ready to take on the day. Granted, Joe was really the one struggling. I was only there with him for a couple of days. He had become accustomed while being gone for longer.
We both got up to get the girls this morning regardless, only for Jessica to meet us in the hallway, telling us take them for the day if we'd like to spend some time together after being away from each other for a while. Sure, the girls missed him, but as we've discussed before, the family doesn't work if Joe and I don't. And honestly, we're due for some time just the two of us.
Now here we are, almost two hours later with... Joe sleeping soundlessly next to me while I stare at him to pass the time, not finding anything else appealing. I could stare at him for hours. It gives me the opportunity to find more of the details on his tattoos... or notice minor imperfections on his skin. Some of which I've seen before and others that I've never noticed whether they be new, or I just didn't pay enough attention.
"How long have you been staring at me?" He asks groggily, rolling toward me.
I blink, taking my eyes from his torso and to his face where a sleepy grin lies, his heavy eyes meeting mine. "I don't remember."
He chuckles, reaching for me, pulling me into him, kissing my head. "I told you to not let me go back to sleep."
"I've never been good at listening," I whisper.
He stifles a laugh, nodding. "Ain't that the truth."
I laugh, leaning away slightly to look at him, our eyes meeting again. "You looked peaceful. Plus, you needed a little more rest."
"You could've slept too," he sighs. "Instead of staring at me."
I grin, shrugging. "I tried. I couldn't fall back asleep. You were too distracting."
"I'll make sure to put on a shirt from now on," he chuckles.
"Don't you dare," I tell him, narrowing my eyes playfully.
He laughs. "I love how that's a threat for you."
"I like to look, you're hot."
"I'm also your husband and if you wanted to look you could just ask."
"Why ask when I could just have you without a shirt on to begin with?"
He licks his lips. "Does that work the other way around too?"
My jaw drops, a laugh escaping. "Joe!"
He gasps playfully. "Oh no, did I say that out loud?"
I hit his chest lightly, shaking my head and laughing. "You're ridiculous."
"Would it be possible to have that now though?" He asks, wiggling his brows and starting to raise my shirt.
"Joe!" I quietly scold him, giggling lightly before we hear the doorknob, making him stop, both of us getting quiet as the door creaks open.
"Hi daddy!" Willa exclaims as she climbs on the bed, seeing us awake.
"Hi princess," he chuckles, turning slightly. "What are you doing up here?"
"I wanted to see you!" She says.
"Ahh, I see," he nods.
"Hi mommy," she smiles, looking at me now.
