Joe quickly sitting up and shushing them as I close my eyes, not ready to turn on mom-mode and a smile quite yet.

"Come on," he whispers.

"I want mommy," Willa whines.

"We're gonna let mommy sleep, princess," he tells her. "Mommy had a rough night, and she has a boo-boo on her tummy so we're gonna let her rest a little longer."

"A boo-boo?" she asks, yawning.

"Yeah, princess. But she's okay."

"Okay," she says.

"Daddy, goldfish." Delphine demands.

"Can I get a please or something?" he chuckles.

"Goldfish peas."

"Gotcha," he sighs, the door to the bedroom shutting gently.

I adjust my sight to Braelin now, watching her breathe comfortably, the pain meds, whatever they gave me, wearing off from where they stitched me up. Though I'm not in the mood to get out of this bed to get anything for it. Whatever. I'll be fine. It's not a super deep cut, if I'm remembering correctly. If it were I'd be at the hospital instead of in this bed. They were able to stitch it up in the ambulance, and pretty quickly.

I'm not sure how long I stare at her, but quickly after beginning to stir, Braelin wakes, searching for my breast. Silently, I grab her and sit up in the bed, helping her to latch and once again staring down at her as she nurses. How could anyone be so heartless but to threaten such a small, defenseless being. I guess that was the point. He knew I'd do anything to defend them. He knew I'd go as far as dying for them. He knew.

The small click of the door startles me, my head turning toward the sound quickly.

"It's just me," Joe whispers, his tone cautious... worried.

I stay quiet, pulling my eyes back to Braelin, her eyes instantly locking with mine for the first time this morning. I feel them. The tears pricking the back of my eyes, but I won't let them fall. If I do, I'll break down. I don't have time for that.

"What do you want to do, baby?" he asks gently, touching my arm lightly.

I flinch under the touch slightly. Not because of him... but the simple act of touch in itself.

He sighs, gulping and removing his hand.

"Let's go home," I whisper after a moment, still staring down at Braelin.

He nods immediately. "I'll get our things and the girls together." He goes to reach for Braelin who's now done nursing, playing with my nipple with her tongue more than anything. He stops, realizing simply taking her probably isn't a great idea. Do you want me to take her? So, she can eat? Jess is giving the girls breakfast; I figured she'd probably want to eat too."

Without a word, I gently lift her away from my breast, handing her over without a second thought.

"Hi princess," he whispers, nodding lightly, probably taking a mental note. "Let's go get breakfast."

He leaves and after a moment of staring at the wall, I lick my lips, glancing around the room until I see my phone on Joe's side of the bed.

There you are.

Reaching over, I pick it up, opening it and noticing multiple missed calls from William. I sigh, tapping his name and placing the phone to my ear.

"Addison?" he answers quickly, his voice tired and stressed. I've never heard him like this before.

I stay quiet for a moment.

"Addison, are you there? Are you alright?" he asks.

I lick my lips. "Did you know?" I whisper.
