"I know, I know, I know," I sigh, Braelin reaching her arms for me. "I had to get your sisters situated with Jess, baby girl."
Grabbing her, I glance over at the time again, 9:07am. Okay. I close the curtains and turn on the sound machine, her hungry and tired whines continuing as I do so, not stopping until I'm in the rocker and she's latched. Letting out a sigh, I let my head fall against the back of the chair.
I am exhausted. Completely and utterly exhausted. Not that it's anything out of the ordinary but I'm not sure if I can ever take on being anything other than a mom on top of being a mom again. I'm not even sure how I survived doing it this time.
It only takes her a few moments to fall asleep. Then I'm able to carefully place her in the crib, taking a moment to stare down at her before exiting the room, closing the door cautiously before hearing a commotion in the living room, Delphine beginning to cry.
Furrowing my brows, I rush to the area, turning the corner as Joe's voice speaks up.
"Hey, it's okay. There's enough of me for both of you," he chuckles, pulling her closer. "Come here."
"Daddy!" she cries, putting her arms up.
"I know," he nods, lifting her. "Hi."
The both of them hug him tightly as a smile widens across my face.
He's home.
"Well, you're early."
His eyes flash up to mine, a smile spreading across his lips. "I figured I'd surprise you."
"Best surprise ever," I grin.
He chuckles, walking over and puckering his lips, not being able to touch me due to two little girls residing on his arms.
I grin, using both my hands to cup his face, pulling it down and attaching our lips softly. "Hi."
"Hi," he grins.
I let go of him, walking into the kitchen and starting to take out the things for my mid-day pick me up drink. The only thing that's been getting me through the second half of the day here recently.
After a moment, Joe appears in the kitchen with me, taking a glance at all the things in front of me before peering over at the girls.
"Hey girls," he starts.
"Yes?" Willa answers.
"Yeah, daddy?!" Del giggles.
"What do you think about maybe letting mommy go take a nap and we spend some time together while Brae sleeps?"
The girls gasp, bouncing up and down excitedly.
"Yes!" Delphine exclaims.
"Please daddy!? Please?!" Willa squeals.
Joe smirks, looking over at me.
I give him a look.
"Don't take this the wrong way," he starts.
I raise my brows.
"You look exhausted."
I sigh, nodding. "I am."
He hums, nodding. "I know. Which is why I really think you should take me up on this offer. Go take a nap while Brae naps. I've got these two. I know Brae will want to nurse when she wakes up, but I can even feed her some lunch afterward with the girls. You can nap a little longer. Then tonight we can catch up and talk if you're up to it."
I lick my lips, sighing. "Are you sure?"
He nods. "Hey, I've been dying to get back into dad and husband mode, okay? Let me do my thing with the girls. You go take a nap."
