Feeling my eyes heavily lift back up, I notice Delphine's eyes closed, her face squished against her pillow and her mouth open, once again asleep... finally. Only took an hour this time, I assume I can take that as a win.
Braelin's cry makes my eyes pop back open, a small groan escaping my lips.
Joe will be home tomorrow; Joe will be home tomorrow.
Taking her out of the bedside bassinet, I place her in position, helping her latch, struggling for a good ten minutes before she does so.
"Mommy!"
I sigh, placing a hand over my face before grabbing my phone, opening the baby monitor app and going to Delphine's room.
"Del, come to mommy's room," I tell her before watching as she gets out of bed, walks to the door and out of her room, dragging her blanket and Bluey stuffed animal along with her.
"Hi mommy!" she giggles as she walks in.
"Climb up here and lay down," I tell her.
"Mommy, I play," she giggles.
"No ma'am, it is the middle of the night. It is time to sleep. Climb up and lay down."
"No." she argues.
"Delphine Amalie, I am not joking right now. Get up here and lay down," I tell her sternly, giving her a look.
She gives me a playful look, testing my limit.
"Now." I order, the look still plastered on my face.
She giggles, getting up on the bed and laying down, spending a few minutes rolling and giggling, trying to play.
"Delphine," I warn her, raising a brow. "That is enough, go to sleep."
"I want to play," she says.
"No," I inform her. "Sleep."
"Baewyn up," she says, pointing at the baby.
"Braelin is eating," I tell her. "She's a baby and needs to eat throughout the night too."
"I eat too," she says, sitting up.
"Nope, no," I shake my head. "You had a snack an hour and a half ago. No ma'am, not happening. Lay down."
She starts to whine, bouncing and pouting in her spot.
"Delphine, the answer is no. It is time to go to sleep."
"I eat too!" she demands.
"No," I tell her simply. "Please lay down and go to sleep."
She spends the next few minutes trying to get my attention, bouncing, whining, calling my name, and more. But my lack of response as I stare down at Braelin and then at the wall leads her to lay down, playing with Bluey instead.
"Delphine, cuddle Bluey and go to sleep or I'm taking her, and you'll sleep without her tonight."
"No, I need Bluey," she says.
"Then go to sleep," I tell her calmly.
She groans again, rolling over and after a few moments kicking her feet.
I close my eyes, rubbing my face with my free hand before placing it on her back, gently rubbing circles.
"No, stop," she tells me, swatting my hand away.
"Then go to sleep," I tell her.
"No."
I pull in a breath, slowly letting it out. "That is not how we talk to people, Delphine. You're being very rude and disrespectful, and I do not appreciate it."
