I assume the complete exhaustion from how stressful the past twenty-four hours was the reasoning for my body to sleep so heavily. Aside from waking every two hours to pump, which I know I did, and being awoken for vitals and check ins, I was knocked out cold for the majority of the night.
Joe, on the other hand, had more trouble sleeping, the stress being less intoxicating on his body than mine, I assume. Though I assume it could also simply be his mind racing, not only thinking of our little girl, but also about me and how I'm going to do with all of this. How he's going to help me, how he's going to stay present with the girls. How we're going to handle all of this. I know he's worried, not only about the baby but about me, about the girls, about our family. Everything.
A small knock grabs my attention, my doctor walking in.
"Hi," she says, giving me a small smile.
"Do- do you know something?"
She nods. "I'm here to give you an update, Addison."
"J-Joe," I say, my voice a little quiet, making me raise it a bit. "Joe."
Over on the bed, Joe quickly opens his eyes, sitting up as he rubs his face. "Yeah? Yeah?"
"Update," I tell him softly, reaching for his hand.
He makes his way over to me, grabbing my outstretched hand as we both look at her.
"So?" I ask.
"She's still stabilized for now," she says. "However, she is unable to breathe on her own, swallow, or maintain body temperature. As of right now, there are no other major problems, but we are still monitoring her very closely. I assure you we are doing everything we can."
We both nod.
"Um, can we... can we see her?"
She nods. "Yes, of course. We'll have someone come get you in just a little bit to bring you to the NICU."
"Thank you," Joe tells her, squeezing my hand.
She gives us a small smile, exiting the room and giving us both a moment to let out a deep breath.
"She's stable baby," Joe tells me, taking his free hand and gently squeezing my shoulder.
"Yeah, for now," I gulp.
He leans down, kissing my head. "Hey, stay positive."
I sigh, nodding. "Go back to sleep, babe."
He licks his lips, shaking his head. "No, baby, no. I'm good."
"Okay," I sigh, licking my lips.
He sits back down, however, sighing as he checks his phone, apparently texting someone back.
After a few moments, there's another small knock on the door, a nurse poking her head in before coming in completely.
"Hi sweetheart, I just have need to write down a couple of things, a couple of questions about baby for you."
"Okay," I nod, licking my lips.
"Alright, I have her born on February 17th at 11:43am. Two pounds, seven ounces, 14inches long. Now, what is the princess's name?" she asks, grinning.
"Oh, uh," Joe starts. "Can we actually have-"
"Braelin Alianna Jonas."
I feel as Joe's head quickly turns in my direction, twisting into a confused expression.
"Beautiful name," she grins.
"Thank you."
After asking a few more questions, she grins, letting out a sigh. "I know this all can be really stressful. Please let me know if there's anything else I can do for you. I know they said something about having you taken to see her in a little while, so I'll be back to do that."
