I don't remember my wedding day being this chaotic, if I'm being honest. Then again, I didn't have kids on my wedding day, I should keep that into perspective. Delphine and Willa are almost too excited for their own good, wanting to be a part of every small detail while Jessica runs after them to stop them from getting into everything.
From hair to makeup to rushing around trying to both control the girls and help the rest of the bridal party, especially Stella, three in the afternoon, aka time for individual and bridal party photos begin and by three thirty rolls around, they have their first look before it's time for touch ups and last-minute fixes before the ceremony.
"Hey, you two," I give the girls a look as they hop around.
"Hi mommy," Delphine giggles.
"Hi," I tell her before crouching down to their level. "Listen to me very carefully."
Willa nods.
"You two are to be on your best behavior. You walk, you stand, you stay quiet and watch Aunt Stella and Uncle Braedon, yes?"
"Yes mommy," Willa nods.
"Okay mama," Delphine giggles.
"Okay," I nod. "Good girls."
The ceremony goes perfectly, not an interruption taking place, thank goodness. I hope someone reminds me to reward and praise the girls later. For now, though, I need them to go with their daddy so I can help Stella get ready for the reception.
"Alright girls," I crouch to them as Stella and Braedon have their five minutes of alone time before she runs off with me to do touch ups. "I need you guys to go with daddy for a few minutes, okay? I need to help-"
"No!" Willa whines.
"Mommy, stay with you!" Delphine whines.
Joe tosses his hands in the air, allowing them to fall back to his sides in defeat, shaking his head behind them.
"Guys, mommy needs to help Aunt Stella."
"We can help too!" Willa whines.
"Yeah, help too, mommy!" Delphine agrees.
I sigh, looking at the two of them. They know I can't tell them no. "Okay, fine, you can come with me, but we need to listen and be good or I'm gonna call daddy and he's gonna come get you because I have to help Aunt Stella."
"Okay!" they cheer, grabbing my hands as I give Joe a sympathetic look.
He smiles, shaking his head and walking over. "I love how much they love being with you. Don't feel bad."
I grin, kissing him. "I love you."
"I love you."
After taking the girls into the room, I ask the girls to sit on the couch for a few moments while I do a few touch ups on myself, feeling a bit run down for whatever reason. Maybe I need a cocktail myself. No. That's probably not the best idea. Especially while still breastfeeding. Though one drink wouldn't do very much to the breast milk anyway.
"Aww," I hear Stella's voice after a bit, now realizing it had been almost twenty minutes and the two had decided to extend their alone time, which I expected, if I'm honest. I know Joe and I needed it too. It's understandable after the stress and chaos of the day thus far.
I furrow my brows, turning to her. "What?"
She gestures to the girls on the couch, making me turn and see both of them sleeping soundlessly.
A grin immediately appears on my face at their sweet faces. I love them more than anything in this entire world. I would do anything for them. To make sure they're safe, make sure they're happy. I'd give anything to be able to figure out who the hell was actually behind everything that happened to us. I know in my bones that it wasn't that fucking idiot. He wasn't smart enough to follow through with one plan without me, let alone trick me without help. Whatever becomes of it, I'll be ready. No one will ever fucking hurt them again. That's a promise. They're worth risking my life. Every time. I don't care what I have to do. It'll be worth it.
