Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. What do I... fuck.
"Hey, hey, look at me, hey."
Blurred from everything happening slowly and quickly simultaneously, I feel my chest tightening, unsure of whether it's the panic or injury creating the sensation.
"L-L-Londyn, the- the girls."
"I know, Jacob's on it, I need you to focus on you right now."
"N-no, go help him. Go- go save the girls."
"Addie."
"Londyn!" I exclaim, forcing my eyes to finally focus on her face. "Go save my kids."
"She's injured," I hear another voice, my vision too blurred, my heart racing too fast, my mind swirling too rapidly to be able to make it out. "I killed him," the voice continues. "He was attacking her, I was just- I was just trying to save her."
I killed him. The voice said. Charles is dead. Charles is gone.
"Londyn," I whisper, trying to focus on her again.
"Addie, I promise you the kids are in good hands, Jessica and Jacob are with them, okay?" she tells me, though her voice sounds muffled.
I feel two hands grab me now, forcing me to the ground gently, forcing me to lie down as everything blurs further, the sounds becoming further away.
I blink a few times, shaking my head, squeezing my eyes shut.
No. Don't black out. Don't black out. Your kids, Addie. You've gotta get to the girls. Focus. Focus. You've got this. You've survived worse than this. Get yourself together.
Inhaling, my eyes shoot open, darting around to the paramedics attending to me.
"Addison, hi, I'm Jenna, I'm gonna need you to stay still, alright?"
"My kids," I choke out. "I need to get to my kids."
"And we will make sure that you do, hon, but you've gotta let us stitch this up first. It's not too bad, but you've gotta let us finish," she tells me.
I try to control my breathing as they do as they said, now in the back of an ambulance, though I'm not sure how I got here.
"Are we moving? I can't leave my kids," I ask, straining my neck to see that the back of the ambulance is open and we're still on scene.
"No, ma'am, we haven't left. We don't see any injuries that require hospital care, though if there is one we need to be made aware of," she starts.
I shake my head. "No, no, that's the only one... That I know of."
She nods. "We'll get you done as quickly as we can, Addison."
Another female paramedic moves closer to my head, grabbing my hand gently. "The police are going to want to take a statement from you, Addison. I know you want to get back to your children, where are they? Are they in the care of someone you trust?"
I gulp, nodding. "Yes, um, they're with their nanny. They're father is at the wedding in the building. But- I-I can't go to the police station; I need to go check on them. I need to see them. Charles- he-"
"Okay," she continues to hold my hand, caressing my hair with the other one. "It's okay, it's alright. We're gonna figure this out, just calm for me. I know this is a lot."
Joe. Fuck. Joe. What if they went after Joe too? If Londyn was with me and Jacob was with the girls, he was completely unprotected. I guess not completely, there were people at the party but how do I know they weren't part of it.
