Friends deserve to have fun traditions for special times of the year too. While family is important, when there's people you've known since childhood you definitely should have some way to celebrate that.
I was hosting this year. Sonya had been the very first one, and after that it was decided we would all switch off.
It took a good minute to get together, but they had been there to help. From snacks, to hanging lights, to finding the movies, we had all played a part in this.
It was without a doubt worth it. An hour of talking each other's ears off made time fly until everything was nice and neat.
"I'm picking first,"Rachel called, already by the stack of movies. Grabbing my blanket, I threw it around me as I took my spot at the end of the couch, my hot coco beside me. Curled up in her sleeping bag, Harriet sat by the couch with the popcorn that Sonya was already munching on. Tucked into the chair, Aris had the plate of cookies that would absolutely be devoured by all of us at the end of the night.
Starting the movie, Rachel went to her usual other end of the couch, the bucket of different flavored candy canes in her hand.
"Nightmare Before Christmas?"I guessed despite knowing the answer.
"Yes. It's the best one,"She said simply.
"It still has more of a Halloween vibe. The creator likes scary things, most of the characters are creepy, so it's obviously meant for that,"Aris listed.
"It has Christmas in the name."
"It also has nightmare."
"You two do this every year. Can we just agree it's for both seasons already?"Sonya sighed.
"It's a good movie, but it's not,"Aris defended.
"Well, the good movie is starting. Let's be quiet for five minutes before Y/N starts making comments,"Harriet suggested.
"My comments are extremely important,"I defended.
"So's my favorite movie. Everyone watch,"Rachel hushed.
Reaching over, I snatched a cookie from the plate to go along with my way too full hot chocolate, marshmallows, whipped cream, and all.
This is what the holidays are meant to be. Sleepovers with Christmas snacks, Christmas movies, and weird friends.
