[Some years ago – 2023 – Connor]
"You're sure, that it will work this time?" I look at Shawn questioning.
"We'll see bud," he answers with a smiling nod. "But I really think it will work this time."
"But what makes you think, that anything is different this time?" I have to admit, I am not that pursuited.
"We've both spent a year apart. We've been growing." Shawn hems. "I've been growing."
"Yeah, you have. You are." I look seriously at him. "But how do you think your relationship will grow? Do you think that you will fall back into the routine? Won't you make the same mistakes?"
Shawn looks at me irritated, and I am immediately sorry for bringing up all these things. "Look, I'm sorry bro," I say. "But I am your best friend, and I need to remind you of this stuff to make sure, you know what you do. I just want you to be happy."
Shawn gives me a small smile. "And I'm thankful for that, dude." He clears his throat again. "You know, she's my best friend – aside you, of course. And we've been through so much, it just seems like we're destined to be ... together. The love's still there – you know that."
I nod.
It's more than visible to see, how much Shawn and Camila are in love. Still and after all the time seperated from each other – even having a new relationship. (At least Camila.) But.
I clear my throat. "Shawn, it's just ... are you sure, that ... I mean, that you both want that relationship – again? I mean thinking of your problems with your priorities and with the press and the paparazzi and the fans and ..."
"I got it, thank's, Connor," Shawn raises his eyebrows. "And I am sure. No more mistakes. Open communication. Total open-being with our feelings and absolutely no lies."
"No lies?" I repeat hist last half-sentence. I don't know if Shawn's aware of the irony behind his words.
"Yeah, no lies," he says again and nods. "A relationship based on any kind on lies can never work."
I nod, but I'm not sure, if he meant no lying when it comes to his own feelings, too.
