The doorbells ring, and I stop writing down the lyrics I was working on until now.
I lay down my guitar and step to the door. Through the spyhole I can see a nervous girl with blonde hair and brown eyes. She's looking like she's not sure if I'm going to open the door.
I'm not sure about that either.
After hesitating a second, I give myself a push and open the door. "Hey."
We stare at each other for a moment, than Aaliyah throws herself in my arms. "I am so sorry! Shawn's such an idiot that he'd let you go."
"It's okay. It's okay, Aaliyah."
Aaliyah eventually doesn't know the reason or at least not the whole story why Shawn and I broke up, and I surely won't tell her. There's no reason to put Shawn in a bad light for other people, especially not his family.
Aaliyah takes a step back and scans me from top to toe. "You look tired. Tell me: What can I do for you?"
"Well, I am. It's been a few days."
"Yeah."
We both stay silent again.
I try to manage the situation, but it's difficult. It's really difficult. Finally, I smile at her. "Look. Thank you for coming over – I appreciate that a lot. It's actually more than I expected. It's so kind that you stopped by – what are you doing here in England by the way? – but you really don't have to help me getting over the break-up with your brother. I know that this is a quite difficult situation for you."
"First of all: You expect too less for yourself. Actually, you deserve people treating you with kindness because you yourself are such a kind person." Aaliyah smiles at me slightly.
"I-"
"Don't you dare to contradict. You do need people around you being aware of your feelings and treating you in that way. Only because in the past someone did treat you poorly, that doesn't mean it's a free-pass for other people to do the same. Please think about that. So: first: I'm here because your my friend. And second: Can I come in?" Aaliyah bites her lip.
