Hey, M
I know you think
I lied to you
And I know you think
I'd use you
And there'll be more who think
The way you do
But I assure you (I assure you)
What I said and what I meant and what we've had
Was true
It was all true

Mandy
Still England.
"Hey, uncle Ted!" I greet him with a hug. "Long time no see!"
He laughs. "Hey, my favourite niece! How are you? How is it going with your songwriting?"
I grin. "It's going."
"That's great!"
I hem. "So, a radio-station want's to integrate some of my songs in their daily program. Aaand..." I raise an eyebrow. "A label called."
"Really?! That's amazing! How's the label's name?"
"It's 'ginger-bread'. Interesting name, isn't it?" I look at him with piercing eyes. "They have a very famous singer under their contract. Just imagine!"
My uncle looks innocent. "Well. That's amazing news, have to say it again! Your aunt will be so excited either!"
I hem again. "Yeah. Totally. But look. As happy and as thankful I am for this opportunity, as you may have recognized, I was a lot in the news earlier."
My uncle nods. "It wasn't oversea-able."
I roll my eyes on his joke. Then, I say: "So here's the thing: You know that I never wanted all of this, and that I'm not that kind of person loving the stage-light and the paparazzi and all of that. I ... I just realized, that I love it way more, to be behind the curtain and to write and make music alone – and with other artists. At least at the moment. I also think, that I kinda have the passion for being a music manager, honestly."
"But you don't want to be now my manager, don't ya?", my uncle raises his eyebrows too, grinning.
I roll my eyes. "Gosh no. That would never work. – Also, you already have a bunsh of managers. I wouldn't fit in there. The market in England is to be honest already filled with our family."
"I would make some space," my uncle offers.
"Oh, how generous! Thank you."
We both grin.
Then I say: "So, you're not angry or disappointed then?"
"Why would I be angry or disappointed?! I guess, I knew it before," he says. "You have to go your own way, and if it's without my support, than that it is."
"You know, I really appreciate your support, you know that, don't you? Eh?"
"Did you just speak with a canadian accent?" My uncle stares at me, and I have to grin, even though my heart aches thinking from whom I got the accent in the first place.
Not thinking of him, not thinking of him, Mandy!
"Well, my mum's gonna marry a canadian, so I guess, I could start by fitting in, too."
My uncle ruffles through his orange hair with his fingers. "Well, but Mandy, you know, that fitting is not always the best solution, don't ya?"
I look at his many tattoos, most of them colorful and all of them with a history. The sleeves of his white shirt are pushed up, so some of them are visible. However, those that are not visible are at least as conspicuous. There are flowers, a cat symbol, a teddy on his right upper arm, some black glasses, many neon-framed words and a huge lion all over his upper chest. Actually there is not many space left for other tattoos. Combined with that hair color and those really extravagant shoes, it's definitely not just fitting in. - Yeah, my uncle's the best example to not fit in, at least at the first impression, and not in a negative way. You realize fastly, that his heart-warmth, his bright smile and his charism make him a totally fitting version of a british (more or less rap-)singer and songwriter, that is adored by his family and friends. Not to mention the fans.
Okay, I mention them.
But for all I care: He's got a point. You can be yourself, not trying to fit in that hard, and be loved and happy even though. Love that point.
"So, you're gonna sing something today?" I look at him questioning.
He grins. "How could I not sing on my sister's wedding?!"
"It is perfect, isn't it?!", I joke.
"Well, honestly, I was thinking we could sing something together," he says.
"Together? Me and this famous..." I act like I am speechless.
To stay with the truth: I am really excited. I mean I sang with my uncle before – we'd performed in front of family and friends several times, nevertheless it is a real honor to be asked by him. "What do you have in mind?"
"Well," he grins. "What about 'glass palace'?"
"You wanna sing one of my songs? – That's quite honoring, uncle Ted, really, but-" I hesitate. "Isn't that a bit ... melancholic for a wedding?"
"It's about lost and found happiness. – I think, it's great."
"Maybe we should stick to perfect." I watch the party guests getting ready for partying. My mum looks great in her white dress and with her dark curls. Gerald glances at her from time to time as he can't believe she's actually his wife now. I think of a song that I wrote a long time ago. It did hurt writing but it felt like a release. In a good way. "Actually,", I say. "Would you listen to a song I wrote some time ago? I know you can learn it easily. I have the feeling it could be pretty fitting for the wedding."
"If you say that, then it'll be true," my uncle says and smiles at me. "Show me that song."

Now and forever
It's like I met you
Yesterday
Something was missing
It was
Some kind of empty
And now we're
Here
And now
I'm happy
For the first time
In a while
I wanna catch this feeling
For you
Forever
Cause now
I'm happy
And I know for sure
(For sure)
That
I wanna stay
With you
Forever
