So, I was going to make this all one chapter, but it was 20k WORDS. 40 PAGES on a document, and I wasn't even DONE, and I was NOT getting rid of anything I decided to write. So this is the first part, and there might have to be three, because this one is around 10k, the other one is 10k, and the third might also be...YOU GUESSED IT 10K!!!
Anyways, I got a request asking to finish this, but I needed to rewrite the entire thing because I wrote that in 2021 *crickets please* I was not going to write the second part when the first one needed a whole new make over, so here you go! I will be publishing these ALL together so I won't be hanging you HIGH and dry.
Anyways, enough rambling. Here's my Don't Blame Me fic rewritten and actually likeable.
Also, please don't mind the format of the lyrics. I'm literally crying every time I see them because of how spaced out they are. I have no idea how to fix that, but it will be fixed eventually.
WARNINGS - Mentions of human trafficking, mentions of rape, blood, violence, abuse, use of language, drugs, and bad gun descriptions

I be usin for the rest of my lifeThere wasn't much that James Barnes wouldn't do. Walking the streets is as simple as breathing knowing that he pays the respects to the people who work them. Those that know his life from the inside out only know that he is the man who protects them. And they keep quiet. James Barnes is the same man who built New York from the ground up. The man who kept the territories in line to keep shipments running smoothly so everyone has a hit of everything.
The people who knew the side of him others don't have the promise to always be on his side, no matter what game that was being played at hand. He was great at chess, fantastic at checkers, and he didn't hesitate to challenge those who stood out to him. James Barnes was the man to go to for solutions that he didn't hesitate to play.
But there was one thing he didn't play with.
You.
The shipping dock near the bay has been off limits for nearly six years now, and not once has he thought about using it behind your back. It was a dead man's trail that led bodies right back to where they came from without a single ounce of regret. Drugs and whatever the hell he wanted weren't worth sending his men your way when he knew they'd never come back in one piece. Or at all.
James Barnes didn't let fear show in any sort of way, but he's learned to be open. He's learned that you don't play games like he was popping candy. The new arm on his left side was the warning you managed to get away with while his life was on the line, and he's taken it clear now that his men know that you weren't supposed to be a target, but another face on the wall of fame one of his own started as a joke. The woman who spreads fear.
The woman who amputates limbs on trespassers.
Now that James was stepping out of the vehicle with someone he recognized years ago, he lets calmness come to an edge staring up at the large infrastructure he wasn't sure would be called modern. As much as it seemed, he didn't have much time before he was being shoved while his best was stepping out in the blacked out car behind him, arguing with another before blue eyes met blue eyes. And then he calms as well.
