Colonel Brandon

You had been so bored, your sisters were up and having tea with their suitors and husbands but Colonel Brandon had gone away to London for reasons he would not tell you. He was currently your suitor. You had fallen for him very quickly when he came to the estate. You two met at a dinner party and you quickly fell head over heels for him, but the Colonel was a gentleman and he wanted things to move slowly between you. He was almost 35 and you had just turned 19. He wanted you to feel comfortable and not rushed.

Right now he was away in London and you couldn't lie you were lonely without him. Most afternoons you both sat and had tea while he would read to you. Some afternoons he would take you horseback riding through the estate and you would picnic by the pond. Either way you spent most days with him and having him be away this long for the first time since he came into your life was taking its toll on you. He has been gone almost a week now and while your sisters enjoyed time with their husbands and suitors you left alone without yours.

You decided that morning you would take your horse Jax out for a ride around the estate, maybe ride around the pond. You went to the stables and had your horse saddled up and ready to go. You were riding around the estate, to you it was just a normal day. You had no clue the weather was going to change so drastically within less than five minutes. The sun was out and shining. It seemed like the perfect day and in less than five minutes the sky was dark.

You were out by the pond when all of a sudden there was a spark and crash of thunder powerful enough to scare your horse and he bucked you off. You tried to hold on but between him going back on his hind legs and then taking off you couldn't and you were thrown to the ground. You hit the ground hard and your head hit a rock by the pond. You felt the impact then the lights went out.

You weren't sure how long you had been laying there but when you finally came to you were soaked to the bone and it felt like the temperature had dropped. You were wet and shivering, you couldn't believe how cold it had gotten. You laid there for a moment trying to get your wits about you before attempting to stand. You reached up and rubbed your temple where you had hit the rock and when you pulled your hand away your finger tips were painted red. You groaned in pain and laid back letting the rain continue to pelt you, you were so tired you desperately wanted to close your eyes and go back to sleep.

As you were out riding Colonel Brandon had made his way back to the estate, he had flowers and planned to surprise you. He had gotten there just as the rain hit, he put his horse in the stable and ran inside, covering the flowers with his coat to keep the stems from breaking. When he entered your sisters looked worried and were waiting by the door.

"Colonel?" Marrianne raised an eyebrow. "We did not know you would be returning. Have you seen Y/N?"

"No, I assumed she was here. I just returned, this is my first stop, I haven't been back to my estate yet." He confessed. "You don't know where she is?" Now he sounded concerned. It was pouring outside thunder crackling every few minutes, the winds were beginning to pick up as well.

"She went out riding earlier and she hasn't returned. We thought we heard a horse and we assumed it was her." Elinor explained.

"The gardiner said he saw her by the pond not long before the weather turned." Margaret told him. Without thinking he threw the flowers he was trying to be so delinquent with only moments ago on the table and ran out the front door. He didn't even stop by the stables to retrieve his horse; he ran straight to the pond in search of you.

"Y/N!" He yelled, hoping to hear a response but none came. As he got closer to the pond he could see a figure on the ground. His stride faltered for only a second in fear at your body laying on the ground but he quickly recovered and pushed his legs to run faster.
