Severus (xmas)

It was Christmas time and Severus had spent most of the month of December at Hogwarts, but this weekend he was home and you were determined to do all the festive things while he was home. You both had a 6 month old daughter and you wanted to take her out and go shopping and go to the candy shops to get some treats and supplies to bake Christmas cookies. You had done all of your Christmas shopping for Severus while he was away but you still liked going to the shops for the holiday atmosphere. What you didn't tell Severus was you were taking Bella to get her photo taken with Santa. That was one of the fun things about living in the Muggle world, they seemed to have more fun during holidays.

You got Bella in her little candy cane outfit and put her coat on her with a little pair of boots. Severus still to this day couldn't wrap his head around how small her hands and feet were. Every time he had to put shoes or gloves on her he would comment about how little she was.

"Do you think we should put a scarf on her? It's snowing outside." Severus commented, coming into the room.

"No, we're mostly going to be in the car or in the stores. If we wrap her in all these things we'll have to unwrap her every time we go into a store or the car because she could overheat." You explained.

"Are you positive?" Ever the concerned father.

"I'm sure, love. She'll be okay." You assured him, he nodded then continued to put his coat on. He had the car running outside so it was warming up. He put a spell on it so it wouldn't start until he spelled it too. He said he didn't want the car to be too cold for her. After you got Bella ready you put your boots and coat on yourself. Severus picked up the diaper bag and took it to the car. By the time he returned you were all ready. You picked up Bella and carried her to the car, putting her in her car seat then opened the passenger door for you. You smiled and got in, letting him close the door behind you.

"So where exactly am I going?" Severus asked, getting in the driver seat.

"First I want to get some candies from the sweet shop to give to my co-workers and just to have around the house." You told him.

"And then? I know you don't plan to go home after going to one store." He answered.

"Then we're going to go to the mall so I can get an outfit for the work Christmas party, and after that I need to run to the grocery store and get some last minute things for Christmas dinner."

"Let's see if we get through all that before a certain someone needs a nap." He commented.

"You or the baby?"

"I bet you think you're so funny." He looked at you sideways.

"I think I'm hilarious." You replied.

"I don't doubt that." He drove in the direction of the candy store. You pat his hand which is on the gear shift and giggle.

"I think mashed potatoes this year since we had sweet potatoes last year. I also was going to make a nice ham, some stuffing and salad since it's just the two of us."

"That sounds lovely, darling."

You both made it to the candy store and you bought a basket full of things for work to make little gifts for your coworkers. You also told Severus some of it was for them even though it was for you to put in his stocking. Just a few little things, he wasn't the biggest candy man. If he wanted something sweet it tended to be a warm baked good fresh from the oven. He was really big on cookies.

You made it to the mall and you B-lined it to the line for pictures with Santa. The line wasn't as long as you thought and Severus furrowed his brows.

"This is what you really dragged us here for?"

"It's her first Christmas, she needs her picture taken with Santa." You replied, holding Bella to your chest.

"You want to put my daughter on a stranger's lap to take a photo?"

"It's normal, you were raised in the muggle world, you know this."

"I'm aware but that doesn't mean I have to like the idea." He sighed, knowing you were right.

"She's going to look so cute in the pictures and you know it." You poked his chest.

"Shes our child she looks cute no matter what." He countered.

"Oh we're next." You said looking at the line. You grabbed Severus' hand and pulled him with you to the front of the line.

"Next." What he little lady dressed as an elf calls to you.

"Whose this little one?" Santa asked.

"This is Bella." You said setting her on his lap.

"Well hello Bella. Let's get a photo for mommy and the I'll give her a candy cane for you. It'll match your outfit." He held her back against his chest while they took the photo. "Now one with the parents."

"Oh I don't think." Severus tried to protest.

"Get over here." You whisper-yelled. He rolled his eyes and went to your side.

"Big smiles!" Santa called out.

"Smile." You said to your husband.

"Everyone say Merry Christmas."

"Merry Christmas." you called

"Merry Christmas." Severus replied, his lips twitching into a smile as he looked at you. That photo became your all time favorite Christmas photo. Bella looking at Santa and you and Severus looking at each other.
