Finding Zero

~Rose's POV~

I look at Yagari to Zero. Zero to Yagari. Of course, what another coincidental. Of course they were more than just teacher and student. "Um...." I started, "What's going on?" Now that I wasn't scared out of my wits, I could ask stupid questions. 

Yagari looked at me as I let go of him. He pointed to Zero, "Why would you want to save Zero? You know he's gonna turn into a level e and you still protect him, do you like vampires that much?" he argued cryptically, "I heard about him but..." He turned and narrowed his eyes at Zero, "Seeing it was a completely different story."

I scoffed, pretending to not worry about Zero, "What? You thought I was saving Zero? No, no, no, no," I lied, "He's going to die by my hands but until that happens, please don't ruin any birthdays." What was I doing? I promised myself that I would forgive Zero if he were still alive.

He studied me before turning away, "You're worried about me ruining a birthday for a vampire." he turned away and clucked his tongue, "It's the same concept. All vampires are the same. I got this eyepatch from a level e vampire." he started, "She was my fiancee when a pureblood had bitten her. One day she just suddenly lashed out. Zero so naively stood in the way trying to protect her and that's when I lost my eye." he spoke with bitterness just seething from his voice. His own fiancee.....and a vampire hunter, "Since then, Zero promised me that I'd never regret it." Yagari looked down at Zero.

"Well... Takuma isn't gonna attack me anytime soon.... I've been in that dorm for almost months," I said trying to lighten the mood, only to realize it was a mistake. It was his own fiancee. Why did I think it was okay to make light of it?

Yagari studied me one more time as if to see if I've lost it or not. Although, I probably already have. Turning back to Zero he pointed his gun again. Yuki floated over him heroically, "I won't let Zero die!" we just stood there in silence and Yagari put his gun down with a sigh.

"What are you doing?!" the headmaster had arrived to see the commotion but things were dying down. "This is no way to treat a lady, Yagari!" He held out his hand for either one of them but both came out without caring.

I could hear someone in the forest. "What's going on?! Are you alright Rose?" said Jason. He started jogging over to me when he saw me. I held out my arms to accept him, but then Jason saw Zero's wounded shoulder and completely passed me, going to Zero. "Zero! You've been shot! You need medical attention." I frowned in disbelief. "Well thanks, Jason." What happened to that malice earlier?

I turned away, clucking my tongue, but I guess it made sense. Zero and Jason were still semi friends. I shouldn't expect Jason to not be friends with people I'm not friends with. And I mean, Zero had a bullet wound in his shoulder as well so it made sense although I was still a little upset about it.

I whipped around and said, "Yeah, it seems Yagari saw what happened between Yuki and Zero so I tried to stop something drastic from happening. No biggy. Not any murder tonight." After a moment of silence from the whole group I said, "Nothing? Okay... then I'll be going back to the party to set things straight. Whatever work I did here is done." I said backing off with Jason in tow. My work was not done. I needed to talk with Zero...but I was also somewhat a little awkward initiating this whole, I'm-sorry-please-forgive-me kinda things.

"What good have you ever done?" said a pessimistic Yuki behind my back, but just loud enough I could hear it. I don't know why I couldn't let it go, but I snapped. Maybe I was sick of her comments- I definitely was actually. I was probably sleepy, tired, hungry, something, but I didn't give a poop anymore.

I laughed bitterly, "Do you honestly think you have any right to say that to me?" I said with a biting tone.

"Rose....the headmaster is here." said Jason, pulling at my arm but I didn't listen to him. I knew the headmaster was there I just didn't care.
