I get it, "We're turning into Southamptonpool. Why do we keep buying Southampton players?" Uh, because Rodgers blocked the move. We were going to get him before he went to Southampton, transfer committee wanted him but Rodgers said no. Now Klopp says yes. Funny, ain't it?
Interviews and such should come later in the day so I'll post that at the bottom when it comes in.
The surprises are coming in right next to each other. Sadio Mané is 5'9. That's short compared to Jordan Henderson's 6'0, Marko Grujic's 6'3, Emre Can's 6'1 and Roberto Firmino and 5'11 Lucas Leiva's 5'10. But he's actually taller than Adam Lallana at 5'8, Philippe Coutinho 5'7, Joe Allen 5'6 and James Milner coming in with the exact same height. Somehow, Klopp finds a way to make sure we're getting taller people because that extra inch really matters.
Mané has scored a lot of goals against Liverpool, hasn't he? Okay, okay, putting that aside, he has scored a lot of bad goals. I say that in the nicest way possible too. He pushes people into making mistakes in any way possible. First goal you see in that video, the guy has barely even passed the ball yet, but Mané forces him into a terrible error, takes the ball off him and scores. It's not a good goal, it's a bad goal really for Youtubers that make videos of this all day. But it's a goal and a goal that Klopp really likes because pressing forces people into defensive, midfield, attacking errors any kind of error you need the other team to make, Klopp's gegenpressing succeeds in. And the guy has pace! As much as we may not like Sterling much, we did really miss his pace. Seeing Origi up there as probably the fastest guy hurts at times because instead of trying to catch up, he either slows down or we try to do a bit of long ball. Now, we have a player to catch up with Origi and speed us up a bit more on the counter attack amongst other things. Plus, he's a versatile player like Firmino, able to play anywhere in the attacking from that Klopp may see fit for him. Most though, he will ply in the wide positions that Coutinho and Lallana have adopted under Klopp.
What to expect from Mané are goals. If you noticed, he was directly involved in 33 goals, with key passes not even apart of this. For a while, we were struggling for goals and though we may not be as much now, a goal threat from all ends is something that a winning side needs. Pressing and pace are other great things that he brings to the side, so that if he does take Adam Lallana's or Philippe Coutinho's spot, he doesn't take away too much and still brings something in.
Although the same age as Firmino when he came into this club, I feel like we can and should expect more than a rocky start, but maybe not instantly scoring from the start at the Emirates. He's already been in the Premier League, though that didn't mean much in the Benteke situation. Then again, anyone could have seen that it wouldn't work out in that situation. He's a good player guys and even if he weren't, remember what Klopp has done for Firmino, Origi, Lallana, Can and Lovren most especially. That enough should get you excited.
For £30m, this price shouldn't be that high. It's only because of him being from the PL and the crazy TV money that his price has shot up, with it being doubtul that Klopp would go from light transfers to a sudden, high double digit buy. Still, this signing will come to good and hopefully we can say that it was a good decision for us to get him at the end of the season.
Best I could get! Some bits are taken out due to copyright, but here it is!
We've got him now, so think about our new signing Sadio in the comments!
