Finally! The transfer window is officially open! Players will come and go, but that's a common thing for a big club such as Liverpool. Still, this summer is much different from the last and the ones before.
This is the transfer season of a new manager, the only difference: We're very confident for once in a long time.
Already, we have a great sense of what Klopp does and doesn't want to do. Overspending on talent will not happen anymore. You may think that Sadio Mané was overpriced but the new crazy TV money has increased things by about 55%, meaning he would have been £15-25m. So people are overpriced. Troy Deeney was and is going for £30m. You sure he's really worth that? No, but inflation makes it that way. Now £30m is the new £20m. Still, we were in for Alex Teixeira and once the price got too high for Klopp's liking, he left. And now Teixeira's in the Chinese Super League doing God knows what with all that money. The days of £32.5m and £35m are both gone and alive. The prices increase, but Klopp's patience is short. He doesn't handle stupid stuff easily, if you can't remember.
The players that should have been gone a long time ago will be going. Already, people are linked or already leaving the club. There's no waiting around when Jürgen Klopp is around, with his past clubs showing that he prefers to implement his style and vision for the club immediately. Players that are/have left the club this transfer window will get their own chapters later on in the day or week, I've got y'all covered on that.
Buying talent right now is a must. Due to no Europe, big talents will be very hesitant or even not want to go at all, with Götze a slight example of this. As our manager has said, he wants someone to push the train and not jump on it, with young players or talented players in not as great leagues. This may be seen to some as a small mentality (Hi Ronaldo!) by some, or midtable mentality even (Dortmund do the same, not midtable). But it's good on the money and Klopp has a reputation for making this work greatly in his club's favor. Zielinski and Dahoud are examples of this as well, and I sincerely hope the former comes as it seems like he really likes the club.
It's an important transfer window this year. Any player kept that should have been sold could weight us down. Players bought now could be gotten on a free in January or possibly not bought at all when they would have had a great opportunity to do good for us. Should Klopp somehow not get all his ducks in a row, the Premier League is not at all forgiving and any mistakes or weaknesses will be pounced upon like a cat on an unsuspecting mouse. A possible run for fourth or that illusive first place could be up to a new signing or two and I'm positive enough to think that he knows who will help us with that.
The positions we need to get this summer are already being filled up quickly. A new goalkeeper was needed, possibly the most important position on the list to upgrade and Karius was almost immediately signed when summer started. Already in the winter we got a new CB in Matip, no need for a new RB and a new LB is a possibility, with Jonas Hector, Ricardo Rodriguez and Ben Chillwell along with others linked. A new CM also has the possibility of being around, with Zielinski, Dahoud and others being linked and other than Götze, CAM/ST won't happen this season unless Klopp sells Sturridge, Balotelli and Benteke, which sounds good for the last two but seems very doubtful for Studge.
So kick your feet up. It's July 1st, but this time it's going to be a lot less bumpy.
